"The apartment and grounds were lovely and we were very happy with the quality of all the fixtures and fittings that were supplied in apartment 7 and the pool when it was warm enough to use was fantastic.Out of all the towns/villages that we visited we found that Varenna was lovely and the walk up to the castle although long and hard was well worth the effort. We also enjoyed the cable car up to Argegno up to the top from where we embarked on the fairly challenging 3 hour walk back down through the woods and farmland back to Ossucio.'The above review received from Stephen - UK, who stayed at Tremezzo Ulivi 7 on 29th July 2014.

September 2015

The Lake Como region

Guests staying here can fully enjoy the freedom which comes from a self-catering stay, with the delightful 'Agrotursimo' of 'La Fagurida' just a short drive away on the Tremezzo hills as well as the popular restaurants along the town's vibrant lakefront road and the wine bars of 'Cantina Follie' and 'Aqua Cheta' to enjoy.

The residence's central lake location promises guests are within easy reach of Villa Balbianello, Villa Carlotta, the family-friendly Lidos, the car and passenger ferry service at Cadenabbia and also the famous 'golden triangle' resort towns. Guests staying on the central lake can enjoy the many picturesque walking and hiking trails, mountain biking, tennis, golf, sailing, wind surfing, power boat hire, kayaking, horse riding and much, much more!

Additional Sport & Adventure Activities include:
Bike Rentals, Boat Rentals/Charters, Canoeing/Kayaking, Float Plane/Helicopter, Funicular Railway, Park, Public Transportation, Public Villas & Gardens and Rowing Boats.

Golf:
There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min. by car.

Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).

Skiing:
This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibility and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.

There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.

There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.

The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass which are approx.74km.

Tremezzo:
The area of Tremezzo is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Lake Como and is located on the western shore. For some time now Tremezzo, along with the villages of Lenno and Mezzegra, have become a 'commune' known as 'Tremezzina'. Nestled in a sheltered bay, midway between Mezzegra and Cadenabbia, gives the village an ideal location.

Tremezzo has been inhabited since Roman times and many ancient ruins are still visible today. At one time wars between Como and Milan involved the town and it was completely destroyed, but it did recover and then became part of the Visconti area. From around the 1600's the town again began to flourish which saw business grow with other European countries.

There are many places of interest in this area, but the spectacular 'Villa Carlotta' is without doubt the most famous tourist attraction in Tremezzo, it is open to the public and a visit here is essential. Built in 1690 for the Milanese Marchese Giorgio Clerici, it has fountains, sculptures and a magnificent Italian garden. Another outstanding attraction is the statue of the Madonna Nera (the Black Virgin). The Swiss Catholic Aschler family initially brought the statue to Italy and it is now on show at the Church of Santa Maria.

Activities to try in the surrounding area include swimming, hiking, cycling, tennis, golf, canoeing, power boat hire, sailing, windsurfing, quad biking and other adventure sports including paragliding.
