The resort offers three excellent 18 hole golf courses- the original Club de Golf Villa Martin, the exclusive Campoamor and the newer Las Ramblas de Orihuela. Both are ideal for golfers of all levels. There is also the nearby exclusive La Manga Club offering a full range of sports such as tennis, football and golf.

Within a ten minute drive are a number of nearby Orihuela coastal resorts such as Cabo Roig, Punta Prima and Playa Flemenca and La Zenia. All are beautiful sandy beaches which carry the Eurpoean blue flag of quality and offer over 300 days of sunshine a year with an average year round temperature of 18-20 degrees C.

The nearby coastal town of Torrevieja which is surrounded by two large natural salt lake lagoons, offers a more lively experience. As well as having a maze of Tapas bars and restaurants there are also many fantastic beaches, gardens, squares and a large port and so is a great town to explore on foot. Whilst being a developing tourist centre Torrevieja has very much retained that special 'Spanish' feel and relaxed environment.

Pick-ups from and to both Alicante and Murcia airports can be arranged at competitive rates.

Location description from owner

The Valencian Country region

Villamartin is the name of both an urbanisation and a golf course in the Costa Blanca area of eastern Spain. It lies in the municipality of Orihuela, in the province of Alicante in the Valencian Community .

Villamartin is one of the many new developments in the past decade in this area of Costa Blanca. The area is very popular with tourists and most of the population consists of Western European expatriate communities who have settled there in the last 10 years, virtually transforming the village into a modern-looking town. There are also other golf courses nearby and numerous beaches. The nearest beach is La Zenia beach.

The area is home to El Limonar International School, Villamartin, an international school that teaches in both Spanish and English.

Villamartin is situated on the Costa Blanca in the municipality of Orihuela and the province of Alicante. It is one hours drive south of the Alicante airport and a twenty minute drive north of the Murcia airport.

The construction of Villamartin started in 1972 and the area has now evolved into a cosmopolitan urbanisation, comprising some 1,500 apartments, villas and town houses. The main inhabitants are from western Europe and mostly English speaking. The Villamartin area is party to a lot of tourism, resulting in the appearance of numerous family-friendly attractions, from golf to water sports and go-cart tracks. The major attraction for both domestic and non-domestic tourism is the climate, as Villamartin has some 300 days of sunshine and a 20 degree average annual temperature, as well as the number of large beaches located in the area which were awarded the European Blue Flag for cleanliness, safety and the provision of facilities for the whole family.

Villamartin has two championship golf courses; Campo de Golf Villamartin, which was home to the 1994 Mediterranean Open, and Campo de Golf Las Ramblas. There are also a number of other courses in the near surrounding area.

The urbanisation of Villamartin is known for its central plaza located near to the Villamartin Golf Course. It consists of a bank, grocery store, doctor's office, a variety of bars, night clubs, cafés and restaurants, plus a number of apartments. The Plaza is built around a square that has a number of palm trees which are home to quite a few African Ring Neck Parrots. These parrots have achieved a celebrity status with the local tourists who are not used to the sight, and are seen as a pleasant addition to the area.

Also,a recently constructed nearby attraction is Zenia Boulevard

La Zenia Boulevard occupies 161.000 square meters and has about 150 shops, it offers 5000 free parking spots to customers.

It looks a lot like an American shopping mall but with a Mediterranean accent.

The Shopping centre has some activities almost every weekend which draws many people from Orihuela Costa, Campoamor, La Zenia and so on.

Most of the shops are located on the first floor and on the second it is full of restaurants..

The Shopping centre is wheel chair friendly there are 3 elevators one in the central plaza and one near the Alcampo.

Also for the Kids there are lots of activities which are open the whole year. A third of the Second floor is a kids paradise with attractions and so on. And near the Alcampo there are small cars shaped in the form of animals which kids can ride while the parents are shopping.

So La Zenia Boulevard is the ideal place to go shopping have something to eat or just relax with the Kids.

Torrevieja Area

Torrevieja is a seaside city and municipality located on the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante, in south-eastern Spain.

Torrevieja lies about 30 miles south of the city of Alicante and has a population of 104,000 (2008). Torrevieja was originally a salt-mining and fishing village as it is located between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Salinas), which give Torrevieja a healthy micro climate.

Until 1802, Torrevieja existed only as an ancient guard tower, which gave the town its name (Torre Vieja (Spanish) means Old Tower) and some labourers' cottages. But in 1803, Charles IV authorized the movement of the salt production offices from La Mata to the town itself and allowed the construction of dwellings there. In 1829, the town was totally destroyed by an earthquake, but the basins were soon reconstructed and re-opened. In 1931, Alfonso XIII gave Torrevieja city status by special grant. During this period, there was also a growing market for flax, hemp and cotton.

In the 19th century, the salt was mainly shipped from the town by Swedish and Dutch ships. At the time, there was only limited demand from other regions of Spain, mainly Galicia and to a lesser extent, Valencia. Although by the dawn of the 20th century, a quarter of all the salt harvested from the lagoon in Torrevieja was sold in Spain itself, and the rest exported was to foreign markets. Today, it is still an important industry in Torrevieja and a major employer. You can visit the Museum of Sea and Salt.

In recent years the local economy has hugely expanded due to the tourist industry. This includes both a strong contingent of British, Irish, Germans and Scandinavians, many of whom live there all the year round, and Spanish people who have a second home in the city. By 2004, Torrevieja had the largest number of British residents of all the Spanish municipalities (approx. 7,180)The high number of British expatriates.
