At the heart of the South East of England, Kent, known as 'The Garden of England' has an abundance of natural beauty - from swathes of green fields and acres of natural parklands and grounds to expanses of pristine gardens and manicured lawns surrounding ancient castles centuries old Mansions and tiny thathced cottages alike.

To meander through Kent is to feel embraced by history - Hever Castle, Leeds Castle, Tonbridge Castle Penshurst Place, Ightham Mote, Knole Park with its free running deer. Canterbury and its wonderful Catherdral and splendid 'Chaucers Canterbury Tales'. Chatham and its historic dockyards Rochester and it famous Dickens Festival.

The stunning SouthEast Coast - Hastings, home to the downfall of a King in 1066, Whitstable for Oysters just-caught fish and much more, Brighton (East Sussex) for a fully British Seaside experience roaming the famous 'Lanes' and discovering treasures among the bohemian and upmarket establishments living side by side. Tonbridge

Tonbridge is a historic market town set on the river Medway, on whose banks the property itself sits, with Tonbridge Castle (the original version of which dates back to Norman Conquest times) at its center. The town also has many other notable historic buildings including The Chequers Inn and Tonbridge Priory.

Mingling with the traditional, Tonbridge also has all the modern conveniences which make a holiday enjoyable too - riverside restaurants and cafes, excellent shopping opportunities for both essentials and relaxed browsing in boutiques for lots of things you didnt know you needed.

Haysden Country Park with two lakes and the Medway too for sailing fishing and wandering plus a childrens play area etc is within walking distance and Sevenaokas Wildlife Reserve a pioneering nature reserve which has a roughly equal proportions of water and land and includes five lakes and a mixed habitat of ponds, seasonal flooded pools, reedbed and woodlands and The Hop Farm Family Park at Paddock Wood with numerous attractions for children and adults alike including Pirate Cove, Animal Farm and a Victorian Carousel to name a few are each a very short drive away.

You can also discover the elegance of Royal Tunbridge Wells (15mins)and its 400 years history - its Chalybeate natural 'restorative' water Spring and historic Pantiles shopping area too.

Or just take time to travel through country roads and lanes which take you to picturesque villages at seemingly every turn - Brenchley, Benenden, Speldhurst, Hawkhurst and Goudhurst.....where cobbled streets, rose covered doorways smiling faces and friendly service are more the norm than the exception.

“Extremely comfortable property in fantastic location”

My husband and I stayed in Waters Edge with our 3 teenagers for 6 weeks whilst we had some building work done on our house. Amanda was very helpful & friendly throughout our stay. Although we live in Tonbridge, I had never ventured down to this area of the river so was extremely surprised at how beautiful & peaceful it is, especially considering its only a 2 minute walk to the High Street. The house is well equipped, spacious and tastefully decorated; a real home from home. We've enjoyed daily walks to Tonbridge Park and have been greeted by swans right outside the front door on a couple of occasions. I would definitely recommend it and stay again.

We had so much trouble with our previous bookings with other accommodation, the owners were absolutely amazing at waters edge. So understanding, accommodating and helpful. Such a well located property, a walk to town, shops, cafes, parks, touristy parts and train station - which is on the mail line to London- not too far away. We had a great stay- heightened by such friendly service (and being created by a yummy bottle of rose!) we thank you so much. Highly recommend.

Waters Edge was a wonderful home away from home for my family of 4 for 10 days. It is very spacious and beautifully furnished. The kitchen is very well stocked for anyone wanting to cook their meals or even have friends in for dinner. The linens are very high quality, as well. Everything was just as it was described in the listing and more! I loved having the French doors open and listening to the sound of the river in the evenings. The location was just off the high street, so very convenient, but it still felt somewhat secluded with the river frontage. The Barstows were quick to respond to my emails and the rental process was very quick and efficient. We were all very pleased and the welcome basket the Barstows provided was a thoughtful and welcome touch, especially after the long flight from America! I would highly recommend this home. The only word of caution--it is on 3 levels, so be prepared for a lot of going up and down stairs.
