Description

Nestled on outskirts of Bridgend in a village to the West called Kenfig Hill, Miners Cottage is in an elevated position overlooking Margam Valley and mountains and with views across Swansea Bay to the Mumbles and Gower peninsular, making it a perfect base for touring the beautiful coastline of South Wales as well as being perfectly situated to access the Brecon Beacons National Park. TripAdvisor don't currently have a listing for our village - Kenfig Hill (Ton Kenfig) is not in Porthcawl, that's another town, but we are close :-) the map shows our correct location.

This four star cottage was once part of the Margam Estate and has been in our family for over 200 years and we have lovingly restored it to a very high standard, keeping the charm, and incorporating , hopefully, the comforts you expect.

Our accommodation? ....We sleep 5 in a double, twin and a single room and we have the option to accommodate two babies/toddlers with cots and high chairs on request. The upstairs

The upstairs bathroom was inspired by the slate and steel industries of Wales past with bath, separate power shower, and adjustable mood lighting. The spacious kitchen diner houses a fridge and freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washer-dryer along with a double oven and 5 ring burner. The slate floored dining area seats ten people so there is ample room to hold dinner parties for friends. The generous lounge is perfect for cosy evenings in with comfortable sofas, a TV and DVD player and a bluetooth soundbar so you can play your favourite tunes wirelessly. We also have BT YouView, which gives you access to all the films on Netflix. If you've had enough of technology, we also have lots of interactive board games and cards for evenings in. There is a private garden with patio furniture and great for barbecues. Quaintly, we also have an outside toilet - known in Wales as the 'Ty Bach' - 'The Little House' ...... so if you don't fancy climbing the stairs, you can always pop to the Ty Bach!

We are also delighted to welcome one well behaved dog :-)

The cottage is situated on a private quiet lane, one of only four cottages in a row. There is a wide open space we affectionately call 'the mountain' just at the end of the row where you can take the kids to play on the swings or take the dog for a run around. There are also many walks you can take, just by walking out of the front door and hiking over the countryside paths. It's perfectly located 5 minutes from either 37 or 38 of the M4, ten to 15 minutes from Porthcawl and perfectly located for exploring South Wales. Conveniently, there is a bus stop at the end of the row which will take you into the town of Bridgend or out to Porthcawl and the coast, which also means you don't need a car to book here, if you catch a train to Bridgend, you can get the bus to the end of the row.

On your arrival at Miners Cottage, you will find waiting for you welcome provisions of tea, coffee, milk, sugar, a bottle of wine along with Bread, Butter and Welsh cakes. Also included in your stay is the use of all fuel, wifi, linen and towels . This is a real home from home, we like it, we hope you do too.

“Lovely cottage perfect for 5”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2016

The cottage is much larger than it appears in the pictures. Nice garden, well situated. Owner is very welcoming and helpfull. We loved walking the gower coastline, shopping in Cardiff, horse riding in ogmore, all kind of beaches, margam country park...not enough time to see and do everything.

Thank you for the lovely review, Hopefully we can welcome you again and you can catch up on all the things you didn't have time for during this stay - we would love to welcome you again, kind regards, Ruth

“Delightful cottage with a view”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2016

Miner's Cottage is full of character but at the same time offers excellent space for young families or an extended family. The owner is easily contactable and willing to put right any issues. We had a leaking washing machine and a faulty dishwasher but it has not put us off as we feel these maintenance issues will be addressed. There is a lovely garden to enjoy as well and a small children's play area within walking distance. We loved the nearby coastline with beaches offering sand dunes, wet sand ideal for castles etc and rock pools to play in. If you don't have children there are some wonderful coastal walks with Devon visible across the water and we also enjoyed a trip to Cardiff. Very nearby is Margam Country Park a must if you have children but also pleasant for walking and admiring the wonderful views if you don't. We had a lovely holiday and would not hesitate to recommend.

Dear Joyce, Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback, we always try to make things great for our guests. We are delighted you loved the area, we do too :-) Once again, I apologise for the washing machine, thank you for letting us know when you let, and yes, it's been put right. I didn't realise you had a problem with the dishwasher, I am so sorry, I will contact our current guests to see if they are having problems. We hope to welcome you back agin - you have definitely had the best weather so far this year! kind regards Ruth

“Nice comfortable cottage, well placed for exploring”

Miners cottage is welcoming and comfortable, is near the motorway and easy to find from the excellent directions. It is well equipped and well placed for touring the area, we went to Swansea and the Gower, the Beacons and Cardiff during the week.

Thank you Simon - we love how centrally located we are for all the places you visited - lucky us :-) We hope to see you again soon, kind regards Ruth

“Top notch homely comfort”

Reviewed 15 Dec 2015

We have stayed at Miners Cottage on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The owners regularly visit to maintain and decorate and have high standards of detail. The cottage is extremely well presented with everything you need to make you feel at home, down to fresh Welsh cakes waiting in the kitchen! We will be visiting Miners Cottage again in 2016 and often recommend it to our friends.

Thank you Alaine - we love welcoming our guests back again, it's very kind of you notice our behind the scenes work :-)
