The Paphos District

SOUTHWEST - CYPRUS
The South West coast of the beautiful Mediterranean Island of Cyprus has a wonderful all year round climate. SPRING is mild, sunny and warm during the days and in the evenings a little cooler with just a wrap for your shoulders. This time of year is when the all the flowers are staring to bloom and all around is green and lush.
The SUMMER months see high daytime and night-time temperatures ideal for sunbathing, swimming, water sports sipping a few chilled drinks under a cloudless sky with cooling breezes coming off the sea.
AUTUMN starts towards the end of October, the temperature dropping a little and becoming a little cooler. This is the time of the year for sightseeing, swimming and sunbathing is also good and the balmy evenings are very pleasant.
WINTER is the time for activity with an average of six hours sunshine a day. Skiing in the troops Mountains, investigating the Island, classical concerts, discovering the local folklore, local arts and crafts, but still being able to enjoy the sunshine.
The region of southwest Cyprus is steeped in history, the ancient fort at Paphos along with churches, the site of the Mosaics dating from 3rd to the 5th century which are considered to be the finest in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Tomb of Kings to list but a few of the sites to investigate. A day out to the Kykkos Monastery in the mounains is a must, also a trip to Lara Bay where the turtles come up on the beach to lay their eggs in the Akamas Peninsular is just a short drive way.

Tomb of the Kings

TOMB OF KINGS, KATO PAPHOS
This is a lively area with many things to do locally and yet in just a short distance you can be in the countryside investigating some of the typical quaint Cypriot villages. Just a kilometer from the Tombs site and the main road into the centre of Paphos a selection of banks, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops. Follow this road and at the big cross road find Paphos's newest shopping mall with designer shops for all the family. Turn right and find the ancient harbor & fort, Mosaics, variety of shops, bars & restaurants and the costal walk, a very lively area suitable for all ages even if you just enjoy sitting and people watching. Paphos also has an Old Town which is within 2 1/2 kms of the apartment situated up the hill away from the coast where the daily fruit and veg market is held and the bustling lanes full of all sorts of shops for the tourist. A car is not necessary to reach these places but there are plenty of inexpensive car hire places and taxis are numerous on the Tomb of Kings Rd.

A little further away is Coral Bay Beach which holds a 'Blue Flag', plenty of beaches and water sports this is serviced by the regular bus service along the coastal road from Paphos Harbour to Coral bay, plenty of stops between, just hop on and hop off wherever your fancy takes you. Whilst just driving around the local Paphos area you will find ancient churches, arts and crafts, eateries and local bars along with wonderful scenery with breathtaking sea views.

For some rugged scenery head inland to the Akamas Peninsular, Lara Bay where the turtles come ashore to lay their eyes, all within the national park. The Troodos Mountains, with the magnificent Kykkos Monastery are within reach of Paphos, a 4x4 would be recommended to get around in this area.

For those who enjoy a round of golf there are three courses reasonably close by. Details to follow.
