A little bit about Shimokitazawa (description is a collaboration by me – a happy Shimokitazawa resident- and my friend Kazuo):

Shimokitazawa is a teeming hub of youthful energy and excitement - a perfect cocktail of traditional Japanese culture and bohemian subculture. A quiet residential district that doubles as what some call a hippy paradise, Shimokitazawa is all at once laid back, trendy, peaceful, upbeat, and cool. What better place for a Tokyo apartment? The vibe in Shimokitazawa is an undeniable Japanese paradox – if the days, weeks, months, and years are, as the Japanese poet Basho said, “travelers of eternity,” then Shimokitazawa is a place where the past, present, and future exist simultaneously. Some of Kazuo and my favorite spots in Shimokitazawa are:

• Segafredo (a wonderful outdoor coffee shop)

• Bear Pond Espresso

• Shisha (looking for a hookah lounge?)

• Ichiran Ramen Shop (award-winning & delicious)

• Tengu (devil/god) Shrine and Temple

• And many stylish cafes and eateries, hole-in-the-wall street food vendors, traditional Japanese izakaya (casual drinking establishments that also sell food), apparel stores, interior design boutiques, gift shops, novelty shops, second-hand thrift shops, karaoke joints, live music venues, record shops, and street muscians.

Within a 5-minute walk you will find (see pictures):

• Hanbei (a retro Japan-style izakaya restaurant/ bar with a great vibe)

• Bara-shoten (a great place for shopping for antique goods)• Kara-Tetsu (a lively karaoke box)

• And Sento (a public bath ten minutes away)

As I said, you really must check out Shimokitazawa for yourself and explore everything that it has to offer.

*****Access******

My apartment is just a 3-minute walk to Shimokitazawa Station, and then a 5-minute train ride to popular Shibuya. It's a quick 8-minute train ride to Shinjuku, and if you're feeling up to biking there I've got bikes that you can borrow (just check with me for availability first, since I have several apartments in the area). If you are a jogger, it's a 15 minute jog to the famous Yoyogi Park adjacent to Harajuku and Shibuya.

****Safety*****

Tokyo is very safe for a large city, and Shimokitazawa is a particularly safe neighborhood in Tokyo. You can roam the streets with confidence day or night without the slightest worry. The apartment is also quite safe, with locks on all the doors and windows and Kazuo in the apartment immediately above should you have any concerns.

***A little bit about my apartment****

Staying in Shimokitazawa is exciting, but you probably want to know about the place you'll be calling home while you visit. My apartment is right in the middle of Tokyo, but it's surprisingly relaxing and peaceful. It's clean and comfortable, and most people who stay with me say it feels like home away from home. The apartment is quite spacious by Tokyo standards, and easily accommodates 4, with additional space for groups up to 6. Keep in mind that my apartment should not be compared to Western standards for 3 to 6-person occupancy- like all Tokyo apartments, it was built for people with an average male height of 170 centimeters.

In your apartment, you'll have:

• Air-conditioner and heater

• Sliding glass door that leads to a balcony overlooking a garden area

• Full furnishings, including two double beds, a sofa bed, dining table

• Kitchen sink and range• Bathroom with tub/ shower, sink, and toilet

• Wireless internet

• Towels, shampoo, and soap• a washer and dryer

From my apartment, you can easily walk to buy groceries and visit many English-speaking shops and stores. The apartment is centrally located and convenient when you want to explore Shimokitazawa and greater Tokyo. You'll find public transportation within walking distance and really everything there is to do in Tokyo within minutes of the apartment.I want you to enjoy your stay in Tokyo. I am happy to answer all of your questions and will help you experience a perfect vacation in any way that I can. Just let me know all of the details of your trip and your needs while you're here. I am here to help you have fun in Tokyo. By the way, I've left a little instruction manual in the apartment for you, which gives you a lot of helpful information about the apartment itself and some information about Tokyo as well. I'll also provide complete directions with a map and pictures to get to the apartment. I look forward to your reservation! I am also available to answer any questions you have about the apartment or the area.
