“Disappointed because of lack of attention to detail”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2016

It is said that a picture paints a thousand words. Sadly the main photo “mis-sells” this property. The door shown leading into an enclosed private garden is of the adjoining property! This property’s private garden is accessed by a separate gate via the car parking area which opens directly onto the road. The garden has a low unfenced wall allowing a dog to easily escape – pet friendly? On getting over that initial disappointment, and fighting our way into the property through the very busy sitting room that the main door opens into, we found the fridge needed a thorough clean, as did the cooker and some of the pots and dishes. Not a good start. Once the dishwasher filter had been scrubbed it did a much better job. The kitchen while equipped as described lacked some basics – e.g. sieve, grater, a working cooker hood – Also there is no fire extinguisher but we spotted by chance a fire blanket on top of a tall unit in the hallway. The wi-fi didn’t work anywhere in the property . In today’s smartphone world where everyone advertises through the web, facebook and twitter the lack of wi-fi in the cottage made planning our days difficult. No fewer than 6 of the lightbulbs were not working, which with the nights drawing in, having the outside light and kitchen lights would have been useful. “Any problems let me know” it said in the manual. We spoke to the owner the day after we arrived who assured us the wi-fi and bulbs would be fixed, but nothing got done. The bathroom blind was black with mould Overall: This is a beautifully positioned cottage let down by poor maintenance and cleaning. “Pets allowed” rather than “pet friendly” would be a more accurate description.

“Excellent location for peace, quiet and wildlife.”

The fabulous weather helped of course. My husband, 87 year old mother and I had a fabulous week staying in this well equiped bungalow. Plenty of hot water and good heating. Multiple sightings of the local Golden Eagles. First time for us on Mull, we will to return.
