Location description from owner

The England region

Cumbria is a land of beauty and variety, from its busy cities and historic market towns to its stone and slate villages, each possessing their own character. Cumbria's landscape is so diverse with wild fells and high passes and endless views to stir the imagination.

As a visitor to the area, whether you are looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the Lake District, participate in the various outdoor activities, or experience the many aspects of Lakeland culture, the Ullswater area offers something for everyone to enjoy.

There are facilities for watersports including sailing, fishing and lake cruises. The surrounding fells provide easy low level walks and more challenging higher mountain walks. There is also mountain biking, rock climbing, golfing and horse riding locally.

The Lake District has a wealth of picture postcard villages and hamlets with shops, inns, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. There are many stately homes, historic sites, galleries, craft centres and garden centres to explore and visit.

Tirril

Penrith is approximately 3 miles from Tirril and is the chief northern town of the Vale of Eden. It was for centuries the gateway to the north, south, east and west. Today, Penrith still thrives as a market town with many shops and services to be found along its mixture of narrow streets and busy thoroughfares.

Tirril and Sockbridge are sister villages sitting on the edge of the Lake District National Park near to Ullswater and the river Eamont. The poet William Wordsworth was familiar with the area as his grandfather lived at the 15th century Sockbridge House. His brother Richard, lived in Tirril and once owned the local pub - the Queen's Head Inn.

Local activities and attractions include - Rheged Discovery Centre, Eden Ostrich World, Dalemain House & Gardens,Ullswater Steam Boats, Larch Cottage Nurseries, Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre, Pony Trekking, The Alpaca Centre, Honister Slate Mine, Lowther Castle, Aira Force Waterfall, Greystoke Castle & Cycle Cafe.

“An excellent cottage, home from home with everything you'll need.”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2012

Booked for Christmas week 2012. Arrived to find the cottage decorated, heating on and a hamper sitting on the table. The cottage was immaculate and catered for everyone in our group. Ideally located for access to the lakes and the close proximity of the pub was a bonus. Have never felt the need to comment or review any other property we have stayed in however this property exceeded all of our expectations (despite the weather!!!).

Mr Edgar, Thank you for your review. We do try to present the cottage how we would expect to find it if we were staying there and go that extra step for Christmas and New Year. It is always good to get positive feedback so that we know we are doing things right. Carol Kay.

This is a fantastic cottage set in a lovely idillic area of the English countryside. The hospitality was fantastic and the cottage cosy, well furnished and a fantastic welcome hamper was provided for on arrival - which was a nice touch. I would highly recommend Braoding Cottage to anyone, not only is it a fantastic placed to stay it opens up the beautiful English countryside. Happily stay again

Thank you for your kind comments. We do endeavour to present the cottage for our guests how we would like to find it ourselves.
