Description

The Wee Red House is in the centre of Thurso, the most northerly town on the British mainland. It's bright and cheerful, small but almost perfectly formed, close to the railway station and all the town's amenities, and only two minutes' walk from the beach. Visitors love the sea, the walks, the sandy beaches, and the castles and historic sites... Thurso's a great base for exploring the county of Caithness, with its long, dramatic coastline teeming with wildlife, the famous John o'Groats, the Castle of Mey (the Queen Mother's much loved summer home), the old fishing town of Wick with its harbour, Heritage centre and Pulteney Whisky, RSPB's Forsinard Flows, and the many ancient historic sites. The Wee Red House is a short walk from pubs, cafés, restaurants and take-aways, and not far from Thurso's cinema, though you might prefer to just stay in and relax. The house is licensed for you to watch TV programmes on your laptop, tablet or phone,

The house is licensed for you to watch TV programmes on your laptop, tablet or phone, and if you've got the wherewithal to play DVDs there's a selection of films on the shelf downstairs. There's also a shelf of paperbacks, so you can simply curl up with a good book.

“A wee Gem of a place”

Reviewed 21 May 2017

I stayed in The Wee Red House for a two-week period in late April to early May and it truly was a home from home. Everything that I could possibly have required during my stay was there - from loo roll, to soap, to central heating, to Wi-Fi! On top of that, vases of beautiful flowers awaited me on my arrival. Not only was I enchanted by this lovely little house, but friends and relatives who came to visit were also bowled over by its stylishness and comfort. The owner has clearly spared no expense in upgrading this lovely little property, with taste and sensitivity in what is a Conservation Area of Thurso. Nothing is stinted here. The owner has generously entrusted what are clearly precious personal objects dotted around the cottage to strangers. I will definitely be booking a return visit.
