Location description from owner

The Wales region

The historic cathedral town of Brecon nestles at the foot of the Brecon Beacons with some very fine Jacobean and Georgian town houses. The remains of the 12th-13th century castle and town can be seen in several places. Brecon Cathedral has a suberb new heritage centre within the beautiful medieval Cathedral Close and an award winning restaurant and tearooms. This is a traditional farming community with a large market- now stuated out of town where there are regular sheep, cattle and pony sales.
The Brecon Beacons has five hundred square miles of mountains, lakeswaterfalls and woodlands filled with wildlife. This unspoilt area of Wales with its clear mountain air and stunning scenery can be easily reached within three hours of Londan and two hours from Birmingham.

Three Cocks

Hay on Wye (3m) Situated on the River Wye sitting on the border between England and Wales, at the foot of the Black Mountains. Overlooked by the fascinating 11th century castle the town has a wealth of old buildings and the 'largest second hand bookshop in the world' in the old cinema one of the 30 major antiquarian bookshops, each with their own speciality. Hay on Wye hosts the world famous Literary Festival with a great many famous literary figures taking the stage each May.
Glasbury, (1.5m), beautifully situated on the River Wye has an excellant bistro/cafe, shop, garage, a canoe centre, pony trekking and outdoor pursuits centre. The river is wide at this point and there is a long grassy bank which is used for swimming picnics and boating.
Talgarth, (2m), has retained a very friendly village atmsphere. There is an excellant award winning butcher with locally sourced meat, a well stocked supermarket with post office, several pubs with restaurants and a Tourist Information Centre. On the way up to the Black Mountains the Pwll Wrach and nature reserve are worth a stop.
