Getting around

A bus stop with timetable is in the village centre. Train and bus station in Malton 8 miles away us a hub to most cities and places. Pickering has lots of small taxi firms but Station Taxis in Malton have the best short notice availability. Trip advisor will not let us list their number here.

Interaction with guest

We sometimes can greet guests but otherwise leave a key. We are usually immediately contactable via phone, text or email. We do not tend to bother you during your stay unless there is an issue.

“Craven Garth”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2017

A lovely quiet spot in a lovely Yorkshire village. It sits at the end of a private lane, so no through traffic or people, with a nice garden and patio. A high fence and trees ensure privacy. The house is nicely kitted out with everything you need, a welcome basket waiting for us was a really nice touch. A pizza shop, chip shop, two pubs and grocer are less than ten minute walk from the holiday home. Thank you James for a nice relaxing break!!

Lovely private cottage which was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Lovely garden and decor throughout. Perfect location with pubs icecream parlour and tea rooms within a few minutes walk. Great for exploring North Yorkshire. Pickering, Scarborough, Dalby forest, Whitby, Robin hoods bay, flamingo land, goathland all within half hours drive.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your wonderful review. We are delighted you had a great time in the cottage and around the local area. There are lots of lovely places to visit and it sounds like you manged to get round most of them as well as sampling the delights Thornton Dale has to offer. Thanks again, we would love to welcome you back in the future.

“Perfect holiday get away”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2017

Ideally located in the very picturesque village of Thornton-le-dale, great children's play area less than a minutes walk from the cottage. Lots to explore in the local area, Dalby Forest, Pickering, Yorkshire Moors, Robin Hoods Bay, Filey, Scarborough, Whitby - a week isn't long enough. A modern, very clean cottage with everything you need for a relaxing break. We would visit again.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your great review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and your day trips sounded lovely. The play area next door is a real bonus for children so glad you made good use of it. Be great to see you again in the future.

Lovely warm and cosy accommodation - private location, nice enclosed garden. Suitable any time of year! Thornton le Dale very pretty village - all facilities at Pickering...only 20 miles or so to Scarborough, Danby Forest close by. Recommended!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review. We are pleased you enjoyed your week at Craven Garth. We would love to welcome you back in the future.

“Weekend away”

Reviewed 12 Dec 2016

Really clean and cosy cottage me and my partner spent the weekend here, loads of places to visit and the pub down the road was perfect with an open fire and tasty food. Situated down a small lane out of the way from civilisation, when we arrived we was welcomed with a cute welcome basket. Our only complaint we could think of was that we couldn't stay longer due to having to go back to work Monday :( definitely worth recommending :)

Owner's reply: Thank you for your great review. We are really pleased you enjoyed your weekend away and managed to vist one of our excellent local pubs! Hopefully you will be able to stay longer next time!

“Very comfortable home from home”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2016

Very happy staying in this warm, well-equipped cottage whilst working in the area. Re-booked and have tried to book again since. Spacious main bedroom and smaller double bunk bedroom were very comfortable. Very quiet lane and private garden and patio ideal for spilling out onto in warm weather. Quick walk into village. Will book again without hesitation. Oh, and generous welcome wine and treats much appreciated.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your wonderful review Andrew. We are really pleased you were happy with the cottage and it was a comfortable base whilst you were at work in the area. If we can help with anything in the future just let us know.

“Beautiful cottage located in the centre of the most picturesque village in Yorkshire”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2016

The cottage was very well equipped and furnished. The kitchen had lots of utensils and was well fitted out. The cottage was very warm and cosy and in warmer weather 2 large french doors went straight out onto an enclosed garden and pleasant patio with garden furniture. Ample parking for 2 cars. Cottage would be suitable for the less mobile as it is all on one level with no steps. Master bedroom was very large and again very well furnished although the second bedroom was slightly small for a second double bed. Located conveniently 2 minutes walk from all the central amenities of Thornton-le-dale village including several pubs, newsagents and craft bakery. Lots of local walks right from the front door. Overall an excellent base to tour the Yorkshire Moors.

“Great place to stay”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2016

This cottage was perfectly presented with all mod-cons. The enclosed garden made you feel that you were in the countryside and not in a village centre. It allowed us the comfort to know it was safe to let our dog have the freedom of the outside space. The cottage was just a minute or so walk from the village cenrte and its pubs, shops and the starting places for many walks. Couldn't have asked for any more.......................give it a go!
