Getting around

Hiring a car is a useful way to view the Island. Taxis are also available to enable tours around the Island or to specific sites. Local buses are cheap and traverse the Island, including around the coast. The Crane also has a regular free bus service to Bridgetown and the local large Supermarket.

“Great for relaxing and as a base for exploring.”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2017

The resort is well situated away from the hustle and bustle of the west coast but within easy striking distance by car and public transport. The apartment itself benefited from the rooftop pool and balcony area (with shower) which provides privacy and breeze and drying area. Playing in the pool became a favourite past time activity for our son - often joined by us as a convenient way of cooling off. A short walk to reception and the rest of the complex provided ample opportunities to swim, sunbathe, drink and eat. The beach was maintained in a pristine manner and the views from above are breathtaking. The apartment was situated close to new development at the crane but work did not impinge on our enjoyment of the facility. It is an end-of-block apartment near to the car park and close to the lift and stairs, providing convenience and greater privacy with views across Barbados to the West. A well stocked supermarket is less than a ten minute ride in the car and it is cheaper than the resort shop but nothing is particularly cheap in Barbados! The room was serviced well and the inventory had all that was needed. The dishwasher and large washer/dryer were especially useful. Unfortunately a number of items were missing, including the sofa bed that was for my son to use. On arrival, a normal sofa was there but following our request a change was made quickly and he had a bed to sleep in that night. One had the impression that items are moved around residences according to need. The kettle malfunctioned but that was dealt with in due course. There was sufficient of the inventory for our needs and for self catering for three of us but I did mention that items were missing before we left. The provision of shower facilities with towels in the fitness centre was most helpful between having to leave the apartment and leaving for the airport, even though the water tended to trickle rather than gush out of the showers. The staff were always courteous, friendly and helpful. A good place to be if you are willing to be a little laid back about life and go with the flow!

Owner's reply: Thankyou for your detailed and useful review. We are sorry that the sofa bed was missing, and have contacted the Crane about this. We agree with your comments about "being a little laid back and going with the flow"! That's the way we have also found Barbados, and hope it did not spoil your holiday.

“Yet again, an amazing stay!”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2014

Yet again our stay at The Crane and the Penthouse was beautifully relaxing and just what we needed. We were amazed on our return that some of the staff in the Carriage house remembered us! Everything we wanted was available on site or in the apartment and we LOVE The Crane beach - now with the addition of the beach bar, where you can grab a bite to eat - there really is no reason to move. We would never hesitate to book again and look forward to returning again! Thank you once again Peter!

Owner's reply: Many thanks for taking the time to respond. We are very glad that The Crane is still one of your favourate places to stay in Barbados.

“An amazing get away”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2013

I’ve never understood why the Crane receives anything other than positive reviews and as frequent travellers to Barbados for the last 15 years, my wife and I just don’t get it. The resort has an amazing cliff top location, overlooking the picturesque Atlantic Ocean on the south eastern coast and the site is very large compared to other hotels on the island. With expertly manicured landscaped gardens and amazing views of the ocean, it is hidden away in a corner of the island away from the over developed west coast and is a great place to relax and chill out. Admittedly, its location is a little trickier to get out and about to see what Barbados has to offer (even though it’s only 10 mins from the airport) although having said that it is a small island and a day trip to anywhere is manageable. We have toured the island many times and have not found a view as impressive as that of the Crane. Our suite was very spacious with a double bedroom, two bathrooms, kitchen and balcony and was all very well furnished to a high standard. With a well equipped kitchen (from cutlery to pots and pans – makes it so it was easy to prepare our own food), a washer/dryer and dishwasher. The private roof terrace was accessed by a spiral staircase from the balcony, with a table, chairs and a grill for barbequing, a couple of sun loungers and a plunge pool and a great (distant) view of the sea. Because it is located away from the hustle and bustle of Bridgetown, the overall atmosphere of the complex is very relaxing. However if you are looking for nightlife and dance clubs, then this is not the resort for you. Having a car is helpful but the resort does provide transportation to the local supermarket. There are numerous swimming pools, several restaurants, a bar and various shops including a convenience store. All of the staff were genuinely friendly (especially all smiles to our 2 year old daughter) and accommodating as were the other guests we encountered and there was a manager's cocktail party on the Monday evening where they served rum punch. The restaurants on the resort are all good, especially Zen (Thai/Japanese), but The Grill at the Carriage House is a little over priced in comparison to the others. Waking up every morning and having breakfast overlooking the beautiful beach was fantastic. We can certainly see why the Crane beach is one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world! (Condé Nast) All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and think the hotel was amazing and has the potential to be a five star. We had a fantastic stay at the Crane and would certainly recommend it to those people looking to relax in the sun, amongst beautiful surroundings. We are already planning on returning next year.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for taking the time to let us know you enjoyed the Crane Experience. We have been Owners at the Crane for almost 14 years and it gets better on each visit.

“Awesome trip”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2013

The place was amazing. Beautiful room and amenities and great service. We were thrilled with the whole week. The pools were great for the kids and the beach was breath taking. Yes it's rough and you can't let the small kids in on their own but wow just beautiful. We are already thinking about returning. Thanks so much Peter!

Owner's reply: Many thanks for taking the time to comment. We also enjoy the Crane and beaches everytime we visit.

“Top Class Resort”

Reviewed 14 May 2013

This is a first class resort in substantial well kept grounds, numerous swimming pools, 3/4 restaurants, a bar and various shops including a convience store with a limited but adequate range of goods and they will obtain meat and fish to order. The appartment is very spacious with two bathrooms, a bedroom, kitchen and lounge area and balcony and is very well furnished. It has a washng machine & dryer and a dishwasher. There is a roof terrace accessed by a spiral staircase from the balcony. The roof terrace has a table, chairs, a grill and sink, sun loungers and a plunge pool. There are distant views of the sea. It would be suitable for disabled persons as there is lift access to the appartment but access to the roof would be difficult. The only other problem which stuck me was that the bed is very high from the ground and it is difficult to get in and out for a smaller person and could be a problem for a disabled person. We did not ask but the hotel might very well provide a small step to assist. All staff we encoutered were very friendly. There was a manager's cocktail party on the Monday evening at which very good rum punch was served. We ate at all of the resturants and they were very good and averagely priced by Barbados standards. Our favourite was L'Azure mainly for the views. The beach is lovely but access is by stairs or a lift. On a couple of days the lift was not working. Not a problem for us but possibly for less able bodied. The location is somewhat remote but we remained on site the whole week as we have visited the island on many occassions and have seen most of the places of interest now.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for taking the time to write your comprehensive review. The Crane is somewhere special where one can completely relax. We are pleased that you enjoyed your holiday, and look forward to seeing you again.

“Fantastic resort with good facilities but never felt crowded”

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Crane Resort. Apartment well finished and very clean. Restaurants on site not too expensive and of good quality. Staff and service exemplary.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for taking the time to submit your review. Completely agree with your comments. Glad you enjoyed your holiday, and hope to see you again.

“Just go!!”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2013

Wow, what a stunning setting, the Crane Resort is a throwback to all the things that used to make a great resort. Such as, genuine helpful service, beautiful grounds with clean interesting pools, good value and quality restaurants, stunning beach with plentiful sun beds , towels and beach service. ( the beach guys also remove guests towels etc, after they have been left unattended for an hour or more) quite rightly too, some guests thought it acceptable to put down towels at 7 am and return at 11! This daily spectacle was great entertainment!! The apartment had everything that you require, was cleaned daily, is spacious and close to all amenities, with good air con and ceiling fans. We hired a car and Barbados is gorgeous, and very safe. However, the stunning natural beauty of the Crane is unsurpassed. Highly recommended. Thank you, Peter.

Owner's reply: Very glad you enjoyed the Crane experience. We have been holidaying there for many years and still enjoy it. Thankyou for bothering to comment. Look forward to seeing you again.

“Amazing...........!”

Reviewed 19 Dec 2012

This was our first trip to Barbados and I can say we were truly amazed at the whole experience. The Crane is a wonderful resort on the eats coast of Barbados, where we got a constant breeze, which was very much appreciated on those long hot sunny days. The apartment was spacious, with a large lounge area and kitchen (with breakfast bar & table). The kitchen was fully equipped for meal in, including dishwasher tablets, cloths etc.The bedroom was huge with an ensuite bathroom (an additional shower room too) - with doors that slide all the way back on to a huge patio. Up the spiral stair case on the patio, we were welcomed to our own private pool and BBQ area - which we made lots of use of in the afternoon/evening. The shop on site provides all of the essential you may need, although we used the Trimart supermarket about a 15 mins bus ride away - they provide a free shuttle back to the resort if you shop there (as does the suprmarket at the Emerald city) The restaurants on site provide a good variety of options, from lazy long light lunches at The carriage house, with views over the pool and ocean. To more formal dining at Zen, with Japanese and Thai cuisine. The beach was true paradise, and we spent everyday there, with fresh coconut and rum(of course) - the resort provide beach/pool towels and you can change them as frequently as you wish. Whilst we were there we visited a lot of the island, using the buses and always felt safe. The locals were always so welcoming and friendly and eager to points us in the right direction. Experience the local cuisine, whilst there, we went to a local bar called Sparkies Place, where the food was what the Bajan people eat and amazing. And don't forget Oistins fish fry too. The process of booking with Peter & Susan was easy and straight forward and always helpful to answer our many questions (sorry Peter!) I can not recommend the Crane and the apartment highly enough - we felt so relaxed and at home. And cannot wait to visit again.......hopefully very soon. Anyone thinking of booking The Crane, do not hesitate!

Owner's reply: Thankyou for your comprehensive narrative of your holiday at The Crane and first visit to Barbados. We have been going there for many years, and still enjoy the experience. We look forward to seeing you again.
