Vine House is surrounded by beautifully manicured vineyards - the area primary industry is viticulture (wine making). The local vineyard owner will be delighted to show you how the wine is made and - the best bit - offer you the chance to taste it!

Local facilities are only a few minutes drive away at Pugnac (or a leisurely 35 min stroll) or take one of the bikes - Super market, wonderful cheap bistro, two boulangeries for those all important croissants and crusty baguette, wine co-operative, pharmacy, cold meat, butcher, hairdresser, village bar.The local Bastille town of Bourg-sur-Gironde is five minutes away. Built on a rocky outcrop this fortified village overlooks the picturesque Gironde estuary. As you explore the village, at every turn you will find impressive buildings with beautiful architectural features. There is a lively little market every Sunday morning. It also has a number of excellent restaurants and cafés.

The centre of Blaye is dominated by a magnificent citadel and the hillside fortress stands guard over the town and the river. Blaye has a large market each Wednesday and Saturday where you can sample and buy many of the local delicacies.

The local towns and villages often host brocantes (antique fairs) and vide-greniers (car boot sales). It;s great fun rummaging around the stalls for authentic French bargains - or you could just enjoy a coffee and watch everyone else hunting for something special
