Good restaurants, cafes, bars and shops are 10 minutes walk; follow the lakeside path to the town centre, enjoying the view over water to the Kepler Mountains!

Te Anau is the natural base for visiting Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, tramping the Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks, and several other equally beautiful overnight tramping routes and day walks. . Fishing is legendary in this region, the Te Anau Golf Club has a very scenic 18 hole golf course; views of lake and mountains while you play, clubs and carts available to hire. Te Anau is just a 2 hr scenic drive from Queenstown, Coronet Peak and Remarkables skifields, south coast and Invercargill.
