‘The image as a whole was that of a small Noah’s Ark.....the hut stood on little wheels about a foot from the ground......a rectangular space of light appeared in the side of the hut , and in the opening the outline of Farmer Oak’s figure....’ Thomas Hardy,Far From The Madding Crowd.(1874)

When you arrive, don’t be alarmed if you replace your car with a pull along vintage apple cart to take your luggage to Farmer Oak’s Hut. You will walk past our chickens and young apple orchard and a small wild flower meadow into your garden. As soon as you open the gate you will realise that you have arrived in a special place. With only cows for neighbours, you will feel as though you have arrived in a space far from the madding crowd, connecting back with nature but at the same time having all the facilities of a luxury glamping accommodation.

The hut has everything you should need including a wood burner to keep you warm and toasty on colder days, a luxury ensuite shower room, a self contained kitchen with fridge, hob and toaster. There is also a very comfy double bed to retreat to after a busy day outdoors. Plenty of throws, fairy lights, lanterns and torches are provided plus the binoculars for the many birds who will visit you.

Outside there is an ‘outdoor kitchen’ area where you can enjoy cooking on the kotlich-a Serbian firepit with a tripod and cooking pots.A simple receipe book will also be provided.There is something about cooking outdoors which calls to our basic instincts-fire, food and a glass of our homemade cider -what could be finer on a summer’s evening than eating outside surrounded by nature? As the sun goes down, you can light the lanterns, wrap up in blankets and sit around the fire pit and finish by toasting the marshmallows you will find in the hut and spot a shooting star as the embers of the fire slowly die down.

The nearest village is Lifton which boasts an amazing Farm Shop where you can stock up on all your favourite foodie treats but if you prefer to eat out then book a table at The Arundell Arms or the award winning Lifton Hall Hotel which are also in the village. You can fish locally too in the rivers close by ( visit The Arundell Arms for a permit) You can enjoy a variety of water sports at Roadford Lake just a 10 minute drive away.

There will be a scrumptious Devon Cream Tea waiting for you with tea/coffee/sugar/milk and condiments provided with the opportunity of treating yourselves to some fresh eggs, local honey, jams and chutneys. Fresh vegetables will be available from our kitchen garden during the season.

Farmer Oak’s Hut is an experience to share with someone you love, a hideaway to spend some time alone to dream your cares away and this is what we want for you all.

We are happy for children to stay in the grounds of the hut with a small tent.A charge of £10 per night will be made at the end of your stay.
There is a no smoking policy in the hut but we don't object in the grounds outside.
