Description

The Old National School is a Grade II listed building nestled in a beautiful hamlet within Dartmoor National Park. Situated on the Moor, guests can walk straight from the door to explore the surrounding area, but conveniently, the market town of Tavistock with its shops and markets is only a 10 minute drive away.

The house has lots of character, spacious rooms, an amazing open plan kitchen/dining room, open fires/wood burner, and bedroom 2 is on a mezzanine above the kitchen/dining area. It is great for a cosy couples get away or for socialising with friends.

The bedroom with the super king bed can be set up as twin beds instead if preferred.

Getting around

It is best to have a car. There are no buses from the hamlet, the nearest town of Tavistock does have bus services to Plymouth and Exeter. Cycling on Dartmoor is quite challenging because of the many hills, but if you are fit and enthusiastic, the cycling is amazing. You are not allowed to cycle off road across the moor, only on roads and designated tracks.

We live in the Manor just a couple of minutes walk from The Old National School, so we are around if help/advice is needed. Or not around if you prefer peace and quiet!

House rules

Because of the mezzanine level, the house is unsuitable for children under 8 years old. Only one dog over 18 months old is allowed at the property at any time and must not be allowed in bedrooms, on furniture or be left in the house alone at any time. Please leave the house as you found it, which will be clean and tidy. Please place rubbish and recycling in the bins provided when you leave, thank you. Strictly no smoking in the house or garden.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.
