The terrace overlooks the private swimming pool and a patio area around it, which features a brick BBQ, an outside shower and a bench shaded by a large, 300-years-old olive tree. The Algarve region

East Algarve is tranquil and beautiful, with a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic amenities. It is also generally cheaper than many other European destinations. The weather is warm and mild in winter months, while in the summer temperatures can reach 40C in the sun. May, September and October aren't as hot; however, June to August are pleasant due to the steady Atlantic breeze.

There is plenty to do in the area. The more active types can enjoy golf, tennis, horse riding, water sports and many more other activities. If you are interested in history and architecture then you will be spoilt for choice. The old town in Faro, the Moorish Silves Castle or the stunning Estoi Palace are just a few of the nearby attractions.

If you feel like venturing further afield, you could make a day trip to Spain. Drive to Villa Real De San Antonio and take the short ferry crossing across the river to Spain. You could also go to Gibraltar or the stunning Seville. And if you would rather have a truly Portuguese experience, why not visit Lisbon, which is now only 3 hours away by express train from Faro.

East Algarve

Tavira is one of the most architecturally beautiful towns in the Algarve. Its old buildings, narrow cobbled streets and historical sites give it a charming character that will come to embrace you. Its sandy beaches can be accessed by a small boat, which ferries people all day.

Other nearby towns are also worth a visit – try Olhao and its markets (on water front) full of fresh, local and cheap produce. Cabanas and Pedras del Rey – small fishing villages are also worth a visit, as well as Santa Luzia, where you are guaranteed to find catch of the day in almost every water-front restaurant.

The Portuguese seem to believe in simple but fresh food. You will find many basic-looking restaurants but don’t be put off by their appearance, as they tend to serve the best food and, often, very cheap. Try the Taberna Basillio (just by Casa Marta) – often praised by our guests. There are plenty of good restaurants in central Tavira, Luz de Tavira, Olhao and pretty much everywhere with tables and chairs will serve decent food.

Every town also has many festivals and market days throughout the summer. Tavira, as an example, will hold popular saints festivities through June, a handicraft festival in August and a folklore one in September. However, there are plenty of towns and nearby villages’ celebrations pretty much all summer and you are almost guaranteed to come across a street event every weekend. The Tavira market day is every third Monday of a month.

“Excellent semi rural villa with ample room for 4-6 and a nice garden and pool”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2015

The villa is part way up a hillside, down a track, and is well maintained with a fairly large pool and garden with lots of trees and shade. The location provides easy access to the Algarve motorway (3 mins) as well as a restaurant (an easy 5 min walk back to the main road) and a good new supermarket on the edge of Tavira. The air con in the rooms worked well and the villa was maintained to a god standard with everything you could ever need for catering. East Algarve property management were very accommodating with an excellent welcome pack, a clean and linen change after the first week, and the ability to leave late on our last day. All in all a very good choice.

“Wonderful !”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2015

We had a wonderful two weeks at Casa Marta. The villa was in an excellent location, only 2 minutes walk from a fabulous restaurant (rustic and very reasonable), and a short drive to Tavira which is a beautiful traditional town with some excellent restaurants. The villa was spotlessly clean on arrival and a great welcome pack was provided. It was also cleaned and bedding changed half way through our holiday. With having two older teenagers we appreciated the three bathrooms, and air conditioning in all the bedrooms made for a comfortable nights sleep. The villa is very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The pool is a good size with enough space for sunbathing and plenty of loungers with pads are provided . There is a huge covered terrace off the lounge with a table and chairs set. What would really make this area very special would be the addition of some lounger / comfortable type seating to sit and read or enjoy an evening drink. Dealing with the owners when booking was also extremely easy and they were very quick to respond which is always appreciated when trying to sort flights etc. This is a very traditional area of the Algarve with amazing beaches and wonderful local restaurants. It is not touristy like other areas of the Algarve which is why we love it !

“Never been to a better villa!”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2015

Our family had a wonderful nine nights at Casa Marta. The welcome pack was fantastic - best we have ever been given - as was the tour by the house representative. The house itself is huge and the garden goes on and on. The pool was easily large enough for the four of us and as the weather was gorgeous it got plenty of use. Really great house and one we will definitely return too. Many thanks. Jo, Phil, Ben and Lewis

“Wonderful holiday villa in rural area”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2012

Casa Marta is the perfect holiday villa in a quiet area. We travelled with our 3 sons of 8,10 and 13 years old. When we arrived, the owner already provided us with a complete welcome package. Everything you need for a perfect holiday is available in this house. The swimming pool is nice and refreshing, the kitchen is well equipped, everything is clean and all the bedrooms as well as the living room have airco. The nice restaurant nearby the house (luis do prego) serves great seafood for a small price. What we really enjoyed was that you are away from all the tourists but still close to the beautiful places the Algarve offers. We made a trip to Sevilla (Spain). What a beautiful city! So we were very satisfied with everything.
