Description

The family-friendly Tavira Garden complex is widely regarded as one of the finest complexes in the Eastern Algarve. Facilities include two pools (each with adjacent kids' pool), a bar/bistro, a gym (with machines, sauna, massage, yoga), mature gardens, tennis, communal WiFi Internet free at Reception, etc. The old town is a 15 minute walk or a €4,00 taxi. There is a good supermarket at 300m and a large shopping centre at 800m (major supermarket, shops, boutiques, food court, cinemas, etc). Tavira itself is one of the best preserved towns of the Algarve – rich in Roman, Moorish and Crusader history, it even has a Roman bridge still in everyday use. A commuter train connects with most of the coastal towns of the Algarve from the Spanish border in the east to Lagos in the west. Express buses run to Seville, Lisbon, etc, while local buses connect with the towns and villages of the Algarve hinterland. Nearby Tavira Island offers 13km of some of the finest white strands of the Algarve

Nearby Tavira Island offers 13km of some of the finest white strands of the Algarve (and a secluded nudist beach!).I have four apartments in Tavira Garden, all of which are fully licenced under the Alojamento Locale regime. Apartment 15A is a large (110sqm/1200sqft) 2-bed 2-bath duplex apartment close to one of the pools. It has its own individual entrance direct from the garden. At this level you have entrance hall, kitchen and dining room; you go down some steps to the living room, up to the bedrooms. It sleeps four to six guests, kitchen and dining are comprehensively equipped for self-catering for six. Dish-washer, washing machine, drying frame, iron/board, hairdryer, etc, are provided. A double sofa-bed is provided in the dining room, a camp-bed and cot/high chair are available free of charge if requested when booking. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom, the second bathroom is beside the twin bedroom. The living area and the bedrooms each have individual AC. The satellite TV offers dozens of channels in English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese. The LED TV has HDMI and USB connections and a DVD player is provided. Communal WiFi is provided free at Reception, in the Bar/Restaurant and at the main pool. The Communal WiFi is weakly accessible in the apartment but an individual WiFi 'HotSpot' can be provided in the apartment as an option (ADSL 12Mbps nominal with unlimited download. First week £20, thereafter £1.50 per day). A large balcony off the living room offers a sea view and is furnished with table, chairs, umbrella, etc. It gets the morning sun and is ideal for breakfast, afternoon reading in the shade or al fresco dining. Bed-linen and towels are supplied and changed when the apartment is cleaned in mid stay for longer stays. Rental rates in July and August are for a party of four; at other times of the year, rates are for parties of two. An extra charge is levied for party numbers exceeding the base number. Fifth and sixth guests are allocated camp-bed or sofa-bed. Cot/high chair are available free of charge if requested when booking. For longer stays, a discount of 10% is applied to the average daily cost for all days in excess of one week. Short stays are accepted (minimum three days) but daily rates reflect an additional final cleaning charge on stays of less than one week. Long winter lets at heavily discounted rates on request (Linen, towels supplied) -- please enquire. Faro airport transfers arranged on request -- €50 each way for 4/5 people; 35 minutes.

The Algarve region

The East Algarve was always the favourite summer destination for the better off Spaniards and Portuguese and has escaped the over-commercialisation which has plagued the better known West Algarve, the favoured destination for most English tourists.Faro airport (35km from Tavira) provides excellent connections and Seville airport (160km) is sometimes an attractive alternative.The Guadiana River Valley, the border between Spain and Portugal is about 25km from Tavira. The old walled towns along the river, a memento of the historical enmity between these neighbours, make for fascinating visits -- the valley is half an hour's drive from Tavira or you can take a boat trip upriver with a stop for lunch en route.The Ria Formosa Natural Park (one of the "Seven Natural Wonders of Portugal") surrounds Tavira. You can go bird-watching, butterfly-chasing, cycling, horse-riding -- or simply wander!Some of the best beaches of the Algarve (and definitely the warmest waters) are found on Ilha da Tavira (Tavira Island) which is reached by a short ferry ride from the old town. On the island there are 12km of fine white strands, bars, cafés, restaurants, sun-loungers, umbrellas, massage. You can always find an uncrowded spot within easy reach and there is even a remote nudist section.A dozen or so golf courses are within half an hour's drive of Tavira, the nearest less than five minutes away. Tennis, horse-riding, bicycle hire, water-sports, fishing, boat-hire -- all are well represented in Tavira.

While Tavira itself has a fascinating history, there are many small local villages within easy reach. Santa Luzia, the octopus capital of the Algarve; Cachopo, in the centre of the hunting district and renowned for game dishes in its restaurants; Cacela Velha, an old fort town dating back to the Moors. There are many street markets (in Tavira itself and throughout the area) offering a fascinating selection of bric-a-brac. The old centre of Tavira is very well preserved. The town boasts a wealth of Roman, Moorish and Crusader history. The town council nurtures the tourist industry and arranges a wide selection of entertainment throughout the season. You can enjoy street theatre, folk music and dancing, fairs and exhibitions, a film festival, aerial displays and balloon races, culinary festivals, etc. The town itself boasts an extraordinary diversity of cafes, bars and restaurants -- you can dine extraordinarily inexpensively or spend a small fortune in the upmarket Pousada de Convento da Graca! The active local fishing industry ensures an excellent supply of fresh fish. And in Dec 2013 Tavira was recognised by UNESCO as the Portuguese centre of the European Cultural Heritage "Mediterranean diet", a tribute to the culinary excellence of the many fine (and inexpensive) restaurants in the town.

“A beautiful apartment!”

We had an amazing week in Tavira. The restaurants on those famous cobbled streets were excellent. Tavira's Ihla and it's amazing beach was incredible, I'd recommend it and it's various refreshments to anyone, especially the avid sun worshiper! What we really liked was the the apartment. It had great aircon and was extremely peaceful. It was very well kitted out with everything you could ever need. Also, there's a mini supermarket just a few minutes up the road so stocking up was really easy. Tavira Garden itself gas a bunch of pools and a really good restaurant. I spent most of my time at the main pool where you could always get a lounger. Ted was very helpful and made the whole process from enquiring to sitting down in the apartment very easy. We would absolutely recommend Ted and his apartments, Claudia & Ben.
