Description

Villa Sabrina is located on a hill in the surroundings of Florence, is a medieval farmhouse: the building was in poor conditions in the late Fifties, when it was bought by an italian-dutch young couple, who decided to settle down here. The house was the totally renovated to welcome the family members and the many guests and friends from all over the world who used to visit them. A recent restoration has given again to the villa its original atmosphere: bright spaces. It offers the guests 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, two of the bathrooms are ensuite the thirsd is a 'salle de bain' with an antique bath tub and a modern big shower. There are 2 living rooms, one with the orignal fire place in stone, a large dining room dominated by the old family table, a cosy kitchen and the 'aia' a wide outdoor space, paved with stones and overlooking the olive grove and vineyard, still owned by the family. Next to the 'aia' a meadow with pool and deck chairs is the perfect

Location description from manager

The Tuscany region

Just 20 minutes from Florence, Pauline cottage offers hospitality in the wine region of Chianti.

Here, away from the sounds of the city amongst medieval hilltop villages vineyards and olive groves, you will find tranquillity and relaxation while your imagination drifts to an ancient Tuscany when those villages such as San Gimignano, Radda in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti ... where buildt.

Chianti is famous for its wine and the best way to taste it, is by visiting cellars with a good group of friends under the Tuscan sky while listening about the way of producing that particular kind of wine. You may ask for Guido Sommelier who is a trusted guide/driver and he will be pleased to organize for you a tour of the cellars.

Other Wise you can also drive there with your own car but farms and cellars allow guests to sample their produce, buy their wine, oil and local products; so make room in your car if you'd like to take some Yummy things away with you.

If you are a lover of the countryside and beautiful landscape, you can walk down small roads leading through cypress-lined avenues and rolling hills on your way to Greve, Radda, Gaiole, Panzano, Castellina, Montefioralle, Volpaia, the abbey of Passignano or you can go mountain biking through these fascinating medieval villages.

If on the other hand you want to take a break from tranquility and approach a more cultural side and try out the nightlife, it will be a pleasure to visit Florence the heart of Renàissance, with it's museums cathedral, art galleries, bars restaurants and excellent shopping areas.

Florence is not the only fabulous tuscan city that is close by; Siena with it's wonderful “Piazza del Campo” and the major event: “Palio di Siena”, San Gimignano with it's medieval Towers, Pisa with it's "leaning Tower", Lucca, Volterra, Montepulciano, Pienza are all easily reachable.

Pauline Cottage is the perfect base from wich to discover the whole Tuscany travelling at the most an hour.

“The perfect base for your Tuscan adventure!”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2016

We had the most wonderful time at this gorgeous medieval hillside villa. We were a group of 8, including two young children, and it was perfect for us. The thick stone walls give you privacy and keep it cool when it's hot yet the courtyard and terrace are south facing sun traps. The bedrooms are all spacious and beautifully presented (with wonderful, high quality mattresses) and there are 3 bathrooms, including a huge family bathroom with roll-top, which is a delight. The kitchen is a little tight for a lot of chefs but has huge character and is very well appointed, opening out into the courtyard. Locationally, it really couldn't be any better - as long as you are ok on the windy track to the house itself (and slipping the car through a narrow gate!). It is out of the village up a steep hill, so you do need a car. You are a short bus ride into Florence - with buses every 15 minutes from the village of Tavarnuzze or even more frequent from Galluzzo, where you can park for free. Taxis in the evening are around 30 euros each way to Florence. It's around an hour by car to Lucca and Pisa and only 45 minutes from the stunning Siena and San Gimignano, both highlights of our trip. And the Chianti hills with their classic Tuscan scenery and vineyards are on your doorstep. Pauline was a wonderful, welcoming host, speaks excellent English and is incredibly knowledgeable about the area. She is a tour guide that teaches new tour guides - there won't be much she doesn't know! And she has lots of contacts, helping us find a guide for a wine tour. The manager, Giulia, was incredibly quick and detailed with her responses throughout the booking process and a pleasure to deal with. I really can't recommend Villa Mary enough - it really was the perfect place to stay to see the best of Tuscany.
