The Andalucia region

The Costa de la Luz has some of the best beaches in Andalucia and Tarifa is an end destination as the focal point for surfing and water sports in general. Being at the southernmost point in mainland Europe, guarantees over 300 days of sunshine a year. Tarifa and the Costa de la Luz still offer Old Spain in its towns and villages along its coastline, as well as culturally beautiful cities such as Cadiz and Jerez. Whale watching is a favourite in the Tarifa locality as well as walking, cycling and horse riding on the beach or in the surrounding countryside.

Visit Tangier for the day by fast ferry and experience another culture and continent. Along the coast you have Bolonia beach and the Baelo Claudia Roman ruins; Zahara de los Atunes; Vejer and Conil de la Frontera and Cadiz are all great places to visit. Inland you have Jerez de la Frontera with Medina Sidonia. Seville is accessible for a day trip,

Tarifa

The area is still unspoilt and offers much of what is left of authentic Spain. The whole coast line from Tarifa to Cadiz offers beautiful sands and the Atlantic ocean. Jenny, the owner of Casa Ambrosia offers specialist trips for two and guests can choose places and activities they would like to experience and a tailor made trip can be organised to suit their taste and budget.

Transfers to and from Gibraltar airport are available, and rates for the trips and transfers can be obtained directly from the owner.

Spanish classes are also available.

“Would visit again and again!”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2015

This hidden gem is tucked away in the old town of Tarifa just a few minutes walk from its sprawling beaches and majestic views of Morocco (see image). The property itself is truly unique split across 3 floors with a beautifully presented terrace to catch some afternoon sunshine. The owner has equipped the whole house with everything you would expect at home. Having forgot my phone charger and with my iPhone rapidly losing battery I was pleasantly surprised to find a number of universal adaptors dotted around the house. Very useful! The house also comes equipped with reliable WiFi, a TV , DVD player and a whole back catalogue of films. There is a wealth of traditional Spanish restaurants, bars and shops all on your doorstep allowing you to absorb the local culture without straying to far away from home. Also having visited in late November I was treated to clear blue skies and highs of 23 degrees (slightly warmer than the UK where it was snowing at the time) so is an excellent choice for some late autumn sun. Having used TripAdvisor religiously for all of my previous holidays and bookings this is the first time that I have felt the need to provide any feedback due to the brilliant property and excellent service. This property will not disappoint!

Happy to know that Casa Ambrosia is a hit out of season as well as in summer. Monthly lets are available from November to end of February and the reliable & unlimited wifi in the house is useful for guests for entertainment, keeping in touch or catching up with business. Casa Ambrosia affords the perfect opportunity to experience life as a local and with everything within easy reach guests can really relax and not even have to drive anywhere. The private roof terrace on the top floor is a plus for a nightcap, morning coffee or a siesta.

“Fantastic 2 week holiday.”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2015

Our holiday was great from the moment Jenny picked us up from the airport. Jenny was very welcoming. Casa Ambrosia was perfect for us. The house is packed with character and has a very homely feel to it. Jenny has put a considerable amount of effort into making the house look very pretty adding lots of special touches and also adding modern necessities around the home. Added bonuses include the washing machine, Wi-Fi (great for us to relax and watch La Vuelta after a busy day) and the welcoming drinks which consisted of tea, coffee, milk and a lovely bottle of wine. The house was spotless and we were left with towels for the bathroom and beach (this was great more room to stuff clothes into the suitcase). We stayed at the property for 2 weeks and after 1 week Jenny gave us fresh bed linen and towels. The location of the house was perfect for us. Near to all the hustle and bustle of the town but yet tucked away down a cobbled street if the hustle and bustle is not what you wanted. The new windows are very sound proof and once closed the house is silent. We loved being part of the Spanish hustle and bustle so did not mind the chit chat of locals passing the house to visit the market. The restaurant opposite was also quiet and the guests that visited were respectful of the houses around. The beach is a short walk from the house, and it stretches for miles allowing long walks to neighbouring beaches if you feel up to it. You also have the gate way to the nature park over by the ferry port, this was great for my early morning runs/walks and the views from the park are amazing. Jenny gave us very useful information on Spanish traditions and culture and we were lucky to be part of the Spanish fiesta watching the spectacle of Andalusian horses and their traditionally dressed riders bringing the Virgen de la Luz home. The streets of the town were packed with women and children in their traditional Spanish costumes. The town was awash with colours and sounds, it was an extraordinary sight and not to be missed. There are so many restaurants in Tarifa and they vary from traditional Spanish, French cuisine, Italian and Moroccan from beachfront to old town hideaway, from loud and busy to chilled and relaxed. Every night we ate out and not once did we experience a bad meal or bad service. It really is heaven for meat eaters. I could go on and on about Jenny, Casa Ambrosia and Tarifa (all positive). We both agree the holiday was one of our best and I am sure we will be back. Thank you so much Jenny.

“Fabulous stay”

Reviewed 16 May 2015

This is our second trip to Casa Ambrosia and it is even better than when I stayed in May 2014. This time we booked Jenny to pick us up at Gibraltar Airport and also booked her for a sightseeing tour to Jerez. Jenny has had new double-glazed windows and door fitted which make the house lovely and quiet and cool, which is bliss and something that is not usual in Tariffa property. There is a new lovely comfortable mattress on the bed, although there was nothing wrong with the old mattress this one is sooo comfortable. The roof terrace has been upgraded and was my favourite place to sit and enjoy the sun and drink a glass of wine. There is also a new sun umbrella on the terrace so my partner, who does not like to sit in full sun, could enjoy the terrace under some shade. Bliss. Also to top it all off, Jenny has had WIFI installed.. This was great as we could keep up with family and friends, at no extra cost, whilst relaxing at the house prior to going out. There are great tapas bars all around the old town, so no need to walk far to get something to eat, and the local beach, which is 5 a minute walk away, is fabulous and has a couple of great beach bars to have lunch. To quote my last review "Jenny has got it just right". Thank you Jenny for a wonderful stay. We will be back.

“Winter sunshine in a great setting”

Reviewed 1 Feb 2015

Casa Ambrosia is a delight and it is obvious that the owner, Jenny, cares about her guests and their stay at her special home in old town Tarifa. The quality double glazed windows make the house warmer in winter, as despite the glorious sunshine in the day, the nights can feel chilly. The bathroom is all new and everything is tasteful and nicely presented for visitors, throughout the property. The roof terrace is great and we started our days with coffee on the terrace and at night we enjoyed a night cap with the cute solar lights making it cosy. Jenny helped with information about places to visit and we especially enjoyed Tarifa old town, Vejer and Cadiz. We hope to return again for longer and Jenny with her generosity and her sweet house will be our first choice in this amazing corner of the world.

“charming tarifa townhouse”

Reviewed 24 May 2014

I really loved this sweet house right in the center of old town tarifia, great to walk everywhere. I also used Jenny's guide service for a tailor made tour of Cadiz city center and tapa bar's she was so informative on Spanish traditions and culture. Will go back next year, the house is clean and comfortable and she is so helpful.

Good to know my tailor made trips for guests are being enjoyed. My many years in Spain and the language make it a pleasure to organise off the beaten track outings, as well as what guests have in mind either when they book or whilst they are staying at Casa Ambrosia.

“Lovely stay at Tarifa old town”

Reviewed 17 May 2014

Casa Ambrosia is cosy and the owner has thought of everything for a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. The welcome drink is a nice touch. You can walk everywhere and Tarifa old town is full of great tapas places and independent shops. The local beach is less than 10 minutes from the house and is fabulous for walking and taking the sun. Jenny is happy to arrange sightseeing trips if you are without transport and I used her services to have a wonderful day at Bolonia beach. Casa Ambrosia is a new kid on the block where rentals are concerned, and I think Jenny has got it just right.

“A taste of authentic Spain”

Reviewed 16 May 2014

Our stay in Casa Ambrosia was very enjoyable and the owner, Jenny, made every effort to ensure we had a welcome break. Tarifa town is really bustling and we appreciated being so close to all the amenities. The historic old town offers great tapas and restaurants, as well as plenty of sunny terraces to enjoy an early evening drink. The local beaches are marvellous. We slept comfortably enough despite being in the town and it was fun to wake up to the sounds of a typical Spanish town. The local indoor market has a great deli and the fresh fish was amazing. Jenny offers transfers from Gibraltar airport and we will take her up on it next time around as we hardly used the car, there was so much to do in Tarifa. Thank you again for a great stay and we can heartily recommend the cute and cosy accommodation as well as what Tarifa has to offer. We will definitely be back!

“A perfect base in the historic old town of Tarifa”

Reviewed 15 May 2014

New to rentals, the owner of Casa Ambrosia has got a gem in Tarifa old town. A stand alone house which is unusual in itself with no shared spaces. A regular visitor to this part of the world I value security and comfort above all and this unique place offers both. Opposite is the Girasol Mexican restaurant which is handy for a nice meal or nightcap and has good WIFI. Tarifa old town is not for those wanting tranquillity or peace and quiet but during the day on the sunny roof terrace at Casa Ambrosia it gets pretty close. At night there is street level noise but Jenny, the owner, is working towards sound proofing her property. I wish her many happy return guests and I will definitely be one of them.

It is good to know that guests feel secure as well as comfortable at Casa Ambrosia. Tarifa old town is a busy place during the main months and noise can be an issue at times. The newly opened Girasol Mexican across the way serves good food at reasonable prices and has the added advantage of WIFI. However, as locals and holiday makers dine late, especially in the summer months, I am in the process of organising the fitting of sound proofed windows to the property to ensure my guests continue to enjoy the Tarifa experience in comfort.
