Location description from owner

The Midi-Pyrénées region

The Pyrenees stretch from the Atlantic to the Mediterrean and borders Spain. It is renown for its unspoilt beauty and many faceted valleys, gorges, and rivers. Lortet is ideally situated to explore the mountain regions of the Haute Pyrenees wether it be walking, cycling, motorbiking, bird watching, climbing, canoeing or just simply enjoying a few beers or glasses of wine with the mountains at your fingertips.
The Tour de France comes to the Pyrenees every year and on more than one occasion has passed our door. It is a great location for cycling with The Col d ' Aspin, Col de Peyresourde, Col de Mente, Col des Ares, Col d' Aubisque and Col du Tourmalet all within easy reach.
There are fantastic walks including the GR10 and the pilgrim walk to Santiago de Compostelle.

Tarbes

The area is heaving with natural springs and there are Four Spa centres very close.
Loudenvielle is nestled at the bottom of the Ski Resort Val Louron and has a wonderful Spa with an outdoor Japanese thermal bath.
Bagneres be Bigorre is a busy little town based at the bottom of the Col du Tourmelet..This also has an excellent spa thermal bath
called Aquensis.
St Lary is only 30mins drive away and is great for skiing and is the biggest ski area in the Pyrenees.
Capvern les Bains is sleepy little Victorian Spa town and is famous for its many therapies
One of the biggest attractions in the area are the festivals and without a doubt Marciac Jazz Festival is probably the most popular about 1hr 20mins drive but well worth a visit. It has hosted names such as Jamie Cullan, Diane Krall and Rosenburg Trio to name but a few. You will need sun protection here because over the 3weeks its held in August the temperatures can be very high 35 C +
For the country and western fans there is a festival at Mirande again boasting a few famous names.
Closer to home there is a small silent film festival in a small village called Aneres.
