Tigh Gorm is decorated in fresh seaside colours, and is equipped to a high standard including microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier and hair drier. We aim to provide everything you need for a comfortable holiday so that you can travel light. We provide kitchen basics - tea, coffee, sugar, oil, herbs, cling film, washing up liquid etc - and you don't have to bring your own garlic press or sharp knife! After a hard day's exploring, sink into the comfy sofa and watch Sky TV, surf the net on WI-FI, or listen to your favourite music on the Ipod docking station. We supply maps and books of local interest, including bird and wildflower guides. The house is warm and we provide big, fluffy towels, cotton bedding and bathrobes. If you feel like a picnic, there are beach towels, cool bag, rug and flask.

Harris is the perfect escape from the stress of modern life. There are many glorious empty beaches, quiet roads and a slower pace of life in a safe environment. Walkers can take an easy stroll along a beach or estate track, or climb the Harris hills, with plenty of wildlife to look out for. There are lots of nice places to eat, whether for coffee or a main meal, several within walking distance, so you don't need to worry about taking the car when you go out for the evening.

Tigh Gorm is perfectly situated for touring Harris and Lewis and day trips can be made to Uist. Boat trips are available to St Kilda and the Shiants. If you have no car, Tigh Gorm is very close to the bus terminal and the pier at Tarbert, and we can arrange to collect you from other arrival points. You can use the local bus service to get around the island. Free on-street parking. Space in the garden for bikes.

Sorry no pets, no children. Strictly no smoking inside.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Outer Hebrides (or Western Isles) are a string of islands stretching down the west coast of Scotland, all quite different, and all enchanting. The Isle of Harris is joined on to the Isle of Lewis and is famous for its white beaches bordering turquoise seas - often quite empty - backed by the soaring hills of North Harris. The ferry from the Isle of Skye takes 1¾ hours, and flights from major Scottish cities take around an hour to Stornoway.
The perfect place to chill out and do nothing, Harris also offers many activities for those who can't sit still, including surfing, hillwalking, golfing, tennis, fishing, photography and cycling. The islands are known for the variety of rare birds which may be seen here - golden eagle, sea eagle, corncrake, gannets and more. Sightings of otters, red deer, seals, dolphins, sharks and whales can delight the sharp eyed. Visitors can see weavers making the iconic Harris Tweed, or seek out shops offering a huge selection of products made from tweed. Boat trips can be taken to St Kilda. A day trip to Lewis is a must to see the Callanish Stones (older than the pyramids) and a reconstructed blackhouse village.

An off-season holiday can reward with windswept beaches, starry skies and Northern Lights, while the summer offers endless days with almost no darkness. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, the Outer Hebrides enjoy higher winter temperatures than the mainland. Frost and snow are rare and palm trees can be found here! Wildflowers abound on the machair areas behind the beaches. The dreaded Scottish midgie is not such a problem as on the mainland as there is usually enough breeze to keep them away! Musical events are held throughout the islands all year. The most famous - Hebridean Celtic Festival - takes place in Stornoway in July.

Tarbert

Tarbert sits between north and south Harris and is the ideal base for touring, whether by bike or car or using the local minibus services. The main village in Harris, Tarbert offers grocers, shops, gift shops, 5 places to eat, bank, post office, leisure centre and health centre. There are several art galleries on the island, and plenty of places to have a delicious tea or coffee and home baking.

“Excellent Accommodation”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

Stayed in Tigh Gorm for 7 days in September 2016- its a wonderful place to stay. Well appointed - everything one needs for self catering is readily available. Spotlessly clean - very comfortable large bed & great having a full bathroom with Shower both upstairs & downstairs in bedroom. Lovely wee private garden off downstairs bedroom- just wish weather had been better but one doesn't t go to beautiful Harris for the weather- if the sun shines its a bonus.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your holiday and hope to welcome you to Tigh Gorm in the future.

“Tigh Gorm”

Spent a week at Tigh Gorm & what a beautiful cottage to stay in. Very comfortable spotlessly clean,& spacious & very very well equipped with every household item one could think of including toiletries, beautiful quality towels, Bathrobes etc etc . As we usually need to do prior to entry when self catering we bought all the usual household items like cleaning materials, milk eggs etc etc but we did not require any of them- We would have left them all behind but we were moving to an other Apartment for an other few days & thought we may need them there-. Kitchen had every piece of equipment one would have in your own home . John gave us a very interesting detail of conversion from a shop to this fantastic cottage. I found it very informative as I knew it as a family business many years ago. Fabulous place to stay in Tarbert -only downside was weather & we were unable to sit out in the beautiful garden throughout our stay.- a lovely one large bedroom cottage near all the conveniences.

Owner's reply: Delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Tigh Gorm. We look forward to welcoming you again.
