Location description from owner

The Sicily region

Sicily is a unique place full of art, archaeology, history, folklore and breathtaking scenery. In addition, it is home to Heavenly beaches, majestic mountains and Europe's greatest natural wonder, Mount Etna. Each scenic region offers something different plus the food, wines and shops are wonderful!

Some of the most popular places to visit outside Taormina, are: Syracuse, Agrigento, Aeolian Islands, Nebrodi Mountains, Mount Etna, The Baroque South East (Noto, Modica, Ragusa), Piazza Armerina (The Roman Villa Casale), and Caltagirone (ceramics). We also suggest Catania's fish market and Via Etnea, where you can find the Cathedral, many shops and an attractive Public Garden "Villa Bellini".

For general sightseeing, we recommend the periods October through December and March through June. For skiing on Mount Etna, late January and early February are best. If you're a dedicated vacationer who can't get enough sunshine and beaches, we suggest June through September. Winter is a good time to come to Sicily if the focus of your visit is history and culture.

Taormina

The bay of Isola Bella is an enchanting place, a melange between the blue of a magnificent sea and the green Mediterranean. The area was declared a nature reserve, and is frequented by snorkelers, is home to a variety of multicoloured fish. The hillside town of Taormina overlooks the Ionian coast and is Sicily's most famous resort, full of restaurants and shops. The Taormina Film Festival is held every year in July.
Its historical side is ubiquitous. The Greek amphitheatre, with its famous panoramic view of Mount Etna and the coast, holds concerts, operas and plays. Medieval walls enclose the town's stone streets.
A visit to Etna (40km) and surroundings is a day-long excursion, Alcantara Gorge (20km) is also appealing to nature lovers. Visit the village of Savoca (14km), so small, so typical, so "not for tourists", where the Godfather film was filmed. While there, visit the “The Savoca Mummies” preserved in an 18th century subterranean chamber. See Naxos archaeological site (6km), the earliest Greek colony in Sicily, or just enjoy wandering around the narrow streets of Taormina enjoying the colourful balconies, interesting shops, outdoor cafes and delicious ice-cream. The public garden is also fascinating and not to be missed, here you can find a play area for small children.

“Amazing view”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2016

The flat is located across the street from the beach. The city of Taormina is up the hill. Its a nice flat, good amenities and the view from the flat of sola bella was beautiful. Parking was on the street, but we never had trouble finding a spot, though it was quiet this time of year. Overall I recommend.

“Modern Apartment with stunning views of Isola Bella”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

This apartment has all the facilities for a relaxing holiday near Taormina. It has a well-equipped kitchen and spacious open dining and living area. The washing machine was especially appreciated. The double-glazed french doors open onto two balconies that overlook the stunning beach and island of Isola Bella. Directly below is the main coastal road Via Nazionale (SS114), and though occasionally noisy it was easy to block this out with the doors closed. We found the apartment to be cool and only used the fans, though air-conditioning is available. The owner (Jane) was particularly helpful in her communications. Secure parking is offered free of charge nearby. The apartment is located directly opposite the steps to Isola Bella beach but guests should pay particular attention to instructions as to the location of the parking and the entry point of the apartment. Neither is particularly easy to find and access to the apartment is from a small parthway off the main road. The funicular to Taormina is an easy walk away.

“Perfect bolthole to explore Taormina and surrounds...”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2013

This apartment exceeded our expectations. We wanted to live for a week like locals and this beautiful and functional two bedroomed apartment allowed us to do just that. The view from the lounge is exquisite of the Isola Bella itself and the hum of voices and traffic from the street is part of the Sicilian charm. The bedrooms are comfy and cool, the kitchen has everything you need and the balconies enable you to watch the world go by and the sun go down as if you lived there.... It was lovely, but I will most remember how accommodating, flexible and friendly Jane, the owner, was and thank her for all her assistance whilst we were out there. If you pick this apartment, you will have made a very good choice and are sure to have a memorable holiday.

Thank you very much for this excellent review about the apartment and the very kind words. I try to enable guests feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. So glad you enjoyed your holiday.

“Stay here - sea view with 5 star living”

Reviewed 25 Nov 2012

Great and good sized apartment with everything you need - kitchen utensils, bathroom, TV and radio etc. Fantastic seafront view with good sized balcony. Excellent location to tour NE Sicily, Etna etc with Taormina a cable car away or a 15 minute uphill walk for exercise. We stayed in November and so a lot of restaurants, bars etc were closed but absolutely ideal for a quiet and relaxed stay. But whatever time of year the apartment and the view were 5 star. Do not hesitate to stay here!

“What a View!”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2012

A beautiful spacious apartment overlooking the bay at Isola Bella. It has 2 roomy bedrooms with ceiling fans. The kitchen and living areas have 2 balconies overlooking the street and bay. The owner meets and greets you on your arrival and she is so helpful and nice. The cable car is short walk away and takes you up to the centre of Taormina. Parking is available in a free secure car park just down the road. There are restaurants and bars across the street. If I had to find a negative point it would be the steps up to the entrance are unsuitable for unfit people.

“Perfectly suitable apartment”

Take a thick towel for the pebbly beach, arts & crafts in the local area were surprisingly good. A steep but rewarding climb awaits the more adventurous!

“Comfortable and attractive apartment with beautiful view of Isola Bella and in the fantastic location of Taormina.”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxing holiday staying here. The apartment was clean, attractive and very comfortable with everything needed. The view was a delight. The town up the hill was fantastic. We enjoyed many evenings walking around taking in the atmosphere and watching the glamourous people One evening there was an outdoor classical concert laid on. The beach down the hill was lovely. We had a great day out on a boat excursion to some islands, which we booked from the town - we were picked up from outside the apartment. Plus, we hired a car so we could get about more.

“Magical Island! Your very own Mama Mia”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2012

We stayed in Isla Bella Apartments on our honeymoon after our most fantastic wedding in Taormina. We obviously think Taormina is the most beautiful place we have been as we decided to have our very special day there. Our wedding guest simply were stunned at the sheer beauty of the town. The food, weather and the people are also amazing! Isola Bella Apartments have beautiful views over the famous Island, which has a house built into the rocks very discretely and is almost impossible to see. There are tour guides available to look round Isola Bella as it has a very colourful past worth a visit! The beech is 2 mins down the steps across from the apartment with a fantastic restaurant Pizzacella- we had our wedding reception there. You can have a boat trip to look around the caves or even try scuba diving and its right on your door step. Make sure you take some good footwear to protect your feet as it is pebbled beech however lots of sun lounges available (very comfy) There also is a choice of beeches another 5 -10 mins away if you fancy different views and restaurants. There is a little local shop a few doors away where you can top up your fridge however if you want to do a bigger shop its cheaper jumping in cable car and going to larger supermarket up in the town (only 15 -20 mins walking using cable car) The apartment is only 5 mins walk from the cable car or there is a beautiful walk up to the central Taormina. The steps are right outside the apartment door but do as the Sicilians do GO slow specially if very hot as many steps to the top but healthier option if you want to work off the Gelato! The Apartment is fantastic! Very spacious, well equipped with a lovely homely Sicilian feel. Well suited for families or couples. You cannot beat waking up in the morning to those views! A must is having a fresh coffee in a morning on the balcony whilst the sun shines down or enjoying a glass of wine and book while the sun sets Things you must do....... Food Food Food Gelato (ice cream a must and the sea food) The amphitheatre, Castle Mola and the Willy bar, mount Etna and the many shops and restaurants and of course outdoor sports! We enjoyed it so much we are going back this year!

“Fabulous Apartment with great views of Isola Bella”

Reviewed 28 Feb 2012

A well appointed apartment with a stunning view of Isola Bella from the main lounge. Well situated, within easy reach of the cable car. A great place to stay if everyone in your party is fit and active - but the property is reached by stairs, so it's not a good choice for people with mobility problems. The owner kindly left a supply of children's videos for our daughter to watch.

“Beautiful location”

Reviewed 21 Feb 2012

This apartment is in a great location in one of Sicily's top resorts. The views over the bay from the windows and balcony are stunning. Taormina is a hillside town so inevitably there are steps: not too many down to the local beach; quite a lot up to the town above but there is also a nearby cable car. There are good restaurants and shops locally and many more up in the town. Apart from the beach, there is plenty to do with for example local walks (hilly), shops, greco-roman remains, shopping. There are organised trips from the town and Mt Etna is close by. The flat itself is comfortable for 4 people and well equipped.
