The Provence region
This part of Provence is not like Nice and Cannes - it is much quieter and more family oriented. A bit like Cornwall or Devon in the sun - which is why we love it! Great sandy beaches and far less crowded than further up the coast.
Transport links are good as you can easily catch a train to most places from Toulon, Nice is an hour and a half by train. Or you can venture inland to Ollioules or Castelet and Le Beausset. Marseille is an hour away by car. Aix en Provence is an hour and a quarter away.
Many ferry's leave Toulon for local and further afield trips like to Sardinia and Corsica.
Lots of forts to visit and a very interesting tour of Toulon Naval base. It's like a game of battleships!
The house was built in 1910 in a traditional French style but with a hint of the Ottoman.
Michel Pacha was Frenchman who made his fortune in Istanbul, designing the port there. He returned to France and built Tamaris, a resort for well to do Parisians looking for a holiday home beside the sea. His houses are of different designs, some large, some small. Ours is one of his later houses.
The house is 100m from the sea and also has a private pool. You can swim from the end of the road or walk down the road to the beach. At the end of the road is a passenger ferry that takes you to the centre of Toulon or to the local resorts of Les Sablettes or St Mandrier sur Mer in 20 minutes. You can hire windsurfs and canoes from the local beach and there is also a diving centre nearby. Toulon is famous not only for its rugby team but also for its opera house and cultural attractions. Behind the house one can walk up the hill to Napolean's fort. Fort Balaghar is also walking distance.
Les sablettes (a 10 minute walk) has a night market every evening during August. Also there is evening local entertainment in the park by the beach such as concerts and dancing. There is a small amusement park for little ones and plenty of cafes and restaurants. There are also some tennis courts. This can all be accessed by foot or bicycle.

"Fantastic villa! Exactly as it looks on the website. Really close to the sea & beach and lovely warm pool."
Les Anemones is a beautiful, large villa perfectly positioned a stones throw from the sea and a short walk to the beach. The villa is well equipped....the bikes are especially useful...and the layout is perfect for those with children as the tv room is separate enough from the main sitting/dining room to make it a great playroom. The pool is heated which is great for small children and the BBQ really efficient! The area is really interesting with many large impressive looking villas in the neighbouring streets and very quiet at night. The ferry services to Toulon & sablettes are great and definitely worth using. The restaurant at the end of the road is lovely and excellent value......I was tempted to eat moules-frites every day! We have rented many villas in the past and this is one of the nicest. All the information given on the website is accurate and the owners were friendly and helpful. We will be back!

"Un avis français ?"
Belle et grande maison 1900 avec son jardin méditerranéen. Mobilier de goût. Cuisine bien équipée. Situation privilégiée et calme. Accueil sympathique. Convient très bien aux vacances même avec une famille nombreuse.
