Description

The building is located in Santa Lucia quarter, one of the oldest of Syracuse, few meters from the monumental church of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro, consisting of the Basilica, Lucia's sepulcher, the Catacombs and the square which takes its name from the church.
The quarter of Santa Lucia rose up between the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly as a residential area, with the widespread presence of crafts and small business activities.
The recently renovated building, although peripheral to the island of Ortigia, is situated in a barycentric area of the current urban growth; its particular location allows you to visit the city easily both on foot and by bus in order to reach more distant areas.
It is accessed from Via L. Bignami. The entrance is marked by the presence of a head carved in stone, perhaps recalling the ancient "Gorgon" that decorated the fronton entrance of the temples of Syracuse.
With private entrance, a small staircase (5 steps) lead you in the cozy

With private entrance, a small staircase (5 steps) lead you in the cozy house, a studio flat consisting of a living room with balcony, a kitchenette, a loft used as a sleeping area and a bathroom with toilet and shower. Overall there are a double bed in the loft and two single beds in the space below. The flat is soberly furnished. There are paintings on the walls, by local artists. The kitchenette - very functional - allows a great autonomy in the preparation of meals.

Location description from owner

The Sicily region

Sicily, situated in the centre of the Mediterranean sea, is its biggest island. There is a series of smaller island around it: the Aeolian Islands and Ustica in the north , the Egadi in the west, the Pelagie and Pantelleria in the south. Its coast are prevalently rocky in the north and sandy in the south. The east side coast is the most articulated, alternating fabulous beaches with easily accessible cliffs.
The climate is typically Mediterranean. In Sicily th avarage daylight is of about 2500 hours per year, against the 2000 of mainland Italy - and the 1800 of northern France. The not very abundant precipitations are concentrated in the winter months from October to March. The highest temperatures are in July and August- average 26° C – and the lowest from December to February – average 10°-14° C. The water temperature varies from about 16° C in winter to 27 in summer.

Syracuse

"It is small, pretty, seated on the shores ofthe gulf, with gardens and promenades going down as far as the waves". Syracuse, in the words of Guy De Maupassant, who visited in the late nineteenth century is something quite different from the magnificent metropolis that was in the fifth century. At that time, when Dionysius I reigned, it was one of the biggest and most powerful cities in the Mediterranean, embellished by temples and palaces, gardens and fountain, rich in terms of money, culture and power. Syracuse is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The sea is fantastic with beautiful cliffs and stunning beaches with fine sand. The climate is decidedly Mediterranean with hot summer and short and mild winters.
On Sunday mornings, in Piazza of Santa Lucia takes place a large market where you can do some shopping of food, vegetables, clothes, curiosity, old books and other items.
Syracuse is a city on the sea, you can sunbath on the solariums predisposed along the coast within the urban area.
The beautiful beaches of Syracuse are located just a few kilometers outside the city, along the southern coast you can find both beautiful beaches with fine sand and low cliffs for those who prefer peace and quiet to the crowded beaches.
Continuing along the coast you can find other beaches, more distant from Syracuse, until you reach the “Isola delle Correnti” that is about 65 km from Syracuse.
It is possible to go on boat tours, buying a ticket, to visit the caves on the cliffs north of Syracuse.
