Very Good

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2015

We stayed in the Roundhouse at Lower Hearson Farm for one week in june with our two dogs to do plenty of walking in the devon countryside. The Roundhouse is perfect for two people with everything you would need in home comforts e.g fully furnished, Tv, Cooker, Washing machine etc. On arrival the cottage was spotlessly clean and tidy and little touches like tea and coffee and nice biscuits laid out ready for a cuppa from a long drive. The owners Graeme and Marilyn were very warm and welcoming ready to help with whatever you may need on your stay and really made you feel at home. They were also really helpfully in advising plenty of walks and days out that may have been of interest in devon. Although we spent most of our time during the day out walking it was nice to return back to the farm where the grounds and gardens are very well maintained and lovely with plenty of tables and benches allowing alfresco dining in the warm summer evenings. The undercover heated pool is situated a very short distance from the Roundhouse and was a real treat to either get up and go for a swim in the morning or after a long days walking. It was also nice to find a holiday let that was completely dog friendly and providing you and your pooch respect the grounds and others in the area you can pretty much walk where ever you like. Lower Hearson farm is a working small holding and was nice to see the owners animals out in the fields and also their new arrivals of baby piglets and chicks. The views from around the site are stunning with rolling green hills and for us was situated perfectly to use as a central base to venture from to visit north, east, west and south parts of devon. The farm is also only 5/6 miles from its main town barnstable, which has everything you would need tescos, sainsburys, lidil, petrol stations etc however as lower hearson sits in a valley you would think you were in the middle of nowhere and not 5 miles from a large town. We never got to do or see all we had planed on our weeks stay and will most certainly be returning to Lower hearson farm and the Roundhouse again next year. We would recommend it to anyone wishing to either see devon by foot or just a relaxed break away in a beautiful setting.

Owner's reply: It was a great pleasure to meet you and have you stay hear. We are so very pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and look forward to welcoming you again next year.

“Perfect country cottage retreat - delicious peace & quiet”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2015

We have returned two years in a row to Lower Hearson Farm. As a married couple, with very busy jobs, we have stayed both years at The Roundhouse for our Christmas/New Year Winter "switch off" break. We can't commend it enough. Lower Hearson is in a very picturesque part of rural Devon, although conveniently close to Barnstable as well, and is perfect for a retreat to switch off and recharge the batteries. Particularly if you're sensitive to noise. The Roundhouse is a beautiful cottage, absolutely perfect for two people, with a large open plan kitchen with oak beams, a cosy living area with a wood burner. Not to mention the large double bedroom with a very cosy bed! Graeme always goes the extra mile for his guests. The fully decorated and illuminated Christmas tree, together with the complimentary shortbread, mince pies and wine, made it feel like a home from home. The cottage is fully stocked with leaflets, pamplets and there's a well-stocked games room and library next door. Plus Graeme is always available to answer questions, help with suggestions for what to do in the local area (hint: there's plenty) and to make your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. We will be going back again... and again!

Owner's reply: Thank you for wonderful review. It was, as always, a pleasure to welcome you back and we look forward to seeing you both again in the future.

“Wonderful stay on the farm”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2014

Just returned home from a week in the Roundhouse on Lower Hearson Farm, with my 3 year old son. We were greeted warmly on arrival and shown around the cottage and the farm so that we knew where everything was. The effort that had gone into making the cottage perfect for our arrival and the added bonus of some yummy biscuits was a really good start to the week. Graeme is great with the kids and gave my little boy the chance to get fully involved with caring for the pigs, sheep and chickens on the farm - he encourages the children to be confident and hands on with the animals in just the right way...needless to say my little boy has been talking about the animals and the lovely farm dog ever since! The farm is a wonderfully peaceful retreat, so if you are looking for somewhere rural to stay, but you still want to be close enough to the North Devon coastline to enjoy the beaches then this is the perfect choice. We had an absolutely brilliant time and were very sad to go home...we hope to visit again very soon!

Owner's reply: It was great that you had a fantastic time with us. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
