Herakles 1. is a spacious two bedroom family Villa, sleeping 6 people, NEW - Fully Air-Conditioned, set in a tranquil location in one of the most picturesque areas of Kefalonia, the traditional village of Metaxata. The Villa has a spectacular swimming pool (shared) with Mountain views.
Metaxata has a small shop and a Souvlaki bar. A short walk through olive groves brings you to a lovely taverna. There is a limited bus service from the village to Argostoli, but car hire is recommended to make the most of this beautiful island.
The Villa is within easy reach of many local beaches of varying types. The nearest, Avithos,(2Km) away is reached by car in about 5 minutes. Others include Spartia, Pessada, and Lourdas.
Kefalonia, is a fantastic place to visit offering something for everyone. There are beautiful 'blue flag' sandy beaches, just minutes from the villa. The scenery right across the island is stunning. There are many historical sites and beautiful fishing villages to visit - perhaps to enjoy a meal in a seafront taverna, and of course the capital Argostoli, where cosmopolitan shops meet local character.
The villa in Metaxata is conveniently located to access the whole of the island. Whilst the village is small and peaceful, it does have plenty of tavernas close by - "The Olive Garden" - less than half a mile away together with shops and supermarkets within easy reach.

The Ionian Islands region
Metaxata is a short distance from the capital Argostoli the village is ideally located to explore the rest of the island. Lassi resort. Avithos beach and the lovely beaches surrounding the Svoronata area are all in easy reach, approximately 10 minutes away. Approximately 360 people reside in Metaxata , in the Spring and Summer months the population increases with kefalonians returning to their island and foreign visitors staying in the village.
Metaxata is an ancient settlement. In the 1930s Professor Marinatos discovered tombs from the Mycenaean era – some thousand years BC In a later excavation numerous pieces of pottery were discovered and are now housed in the Kefalonia Archaeological museum in Argostoli.
Metaxata has it's own important place in the history of Kefalonia, once being the seat of the Archbishopric of Kefalonia and also home to the island's first printing press.
Lord Byron stayed in Metaxata for a few months, he wrote his epic poem, Don Juan while in Metaxata. Kefalonia was his last place of residence before he joined the resistance in Messolongi on mainland Greece. He was to loose his life fighting in the Greek War of Independence He was inspired by the islands natural beauty and the pleasantness of the locals.
His work contains many poems inspired by his love of Kefalonia.
A statue of Lord Byron stands in the central square of Metaxata. Present day Greeks still remember Byron with affection.

Metaxata is a pretty little traditional village located in Livatho. The village has lovely colourful gardens and a pretty village square, Metaxata is very appealing and gentle on the eye.. Views to the east give the village real grandeur, with the mighty Mount Enos standing proudly in the distance.
Metaxata is a 15 minute car drive to the capital of Argostoli where you will find an extensive fruit market, meat and fish markets. The southern resorts of Katelios and Skala are about a 40 minute drive. Sami and Aghia Effimia are on the opposite side of the island and take about an hour to drive. Should you wish to venture north there is the famous beach of Myrtos, the beautiful peninsular of Assos and the village of Fiscardo which is popular with the yachting fraternity.

We arrived at night the quickest transfer ever only 10 minutes to metexata and we were there. We arrived to a lovely surprise at Herakles 1. a very warm welcome table, chairs set out and a bottle of wine. Were can we start, Bedrooms was very well presented light and airy with fully fitted wardrobes in each room, Kitchen very clean and everything you need, looks like alot of the appliances were brand new. Huge open plan living space tastefully furnished. Large front and rear patios both with lovely dinning table and chairs ,My personal favourte was enjoying a cold beer under the wooden gazebo. The rear patio was great at night we collected our own wood and lit the outside chiminea very romantic. The pool...STUNNING. we had the pool to ourselves all week, Weather was very hot, The mountain views by the pool were fabulous. It was Great having a lidl supermarket just 5 minutes drive away. We ate in most nights as we were so relaxed we did not want to leave the villa. Local bar grill was 30 seconds walk away very freindly and served lovely traditional greek food. Next door small friendly convenience shop. To be honest we only visited a couple of beaches in lassi which was gorgeous.. But we was quite happy relaxing round the pool. Kefalonia would we recommend it Yes. Herakles 1 would we recommend it Yes yes. Thanks Nigel for all your help we will be coming back hopefully this year.
