Very Good

“A delightful place to stay”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2017

We had a lovely stay at Herakles 1 which is tucked away in a quiet area of private villas in the village of Metaxata. It has its own parking space and a car is essential. The booking process was easy and Nigel was an excellent communicator, giving us helpful location advice, which we appreciated as we arrived late evening from the airport. We found the apartment to be as described and it was clean and very well equipped. We appreciated the mid week change of sheets and towels and the provision of pool towels. The hot water system was good. We arrived on UK Election Day and neither the TV nor the Internet worked. We resorted to texting friends back home to get the result! A text to Nigel speedily resulted in a visit from local IT expert Gary who restored the Internet. He couldn't fix the TV but that didn't concern us as we rarely watch on holiday. He returned another day to check that all was still well with the Internet. The apartment has two furnished terraces, giving you a choice of eating area. We liked the rear one as it caught the morning sun and was a pleasant place for evening dining under the pergola. The pool is a wonderful asset. It is large, well maintained and attractively landscaped and we mostly had it to ourselves. It is left open but has a latch behind the gate that would be out of reach of most children. The pool is shared by residents of neighbouring villas, most of whom are English and very helpful. They gave us useful tips about good beaches and restaurants. As our second week was to be in the north of the island, we explored the south of the island extensively whilst staying at Herakles 1 and the apartment was well located for easy access to main roads. We enjoyed the local beaches, especially the sandy beach at Avythos with its well located tavernas. We also liked White Rock beach in Lassi (steep road down from a lay by just before the big hotel at the far end of Lassi, nearest to the airport!). Katelios is very charming and worth a visit - it has many places to eat and good fish restaurants. The coast road from Skala to Poros is very scenic. We also drove up to the National Park, via the wine area. It is quite a climb but worth it for the views. We really enjoyed our stay at Herakles 1 and would certainly recommend it as a place to stay. The ease of communication with Nigel was a real bonus and meant that any issues could be resolved quickly and efficiently. Following on from the Internet issue, two bottles of wine were left for us - a kind gesture. We also appreciated the welcome goodies - milk, juice, water, wine and biscuits. These meant that we didn't have to shop before breakfast on our first morning. Many thanks to Nigel, to Gary ( IT technician) and to Garry and Linda the cleaners for your part in our memorable stay in beautiful Kefalonia - I am sure we will be back!

“stunning pool”

Reviewed 4 May 2013

We arrived at night the quickest transfer ever only 10 minutes to metexata and we were there. We arrived to a lovely surprise at Herakles 1. a very warm welcome table, chairs set out and a bottle of wine. Were can we start, Bedrooms was very well presented light and airy with fully fitted wardrobes in each room, Kitchen very clean and everything you need, looks like alot of the appliances were brand new. Huge open plan living space tastefully furnished. Large front and rear patios both with lovely dinning table and chairs ,My personal favourte was enjoying a cold beer under the wooden gazebo. The rear patio was great at night we collected our own wood and lit the outside chiminea very romantic. The pool...STUNNING. we had the pool to ourselves all week, Weather was very hot, The mountain views by the pool were fabulous. It was Great having a lidl supermarket just 5 minutes drive away. We ate in most nights as we were so relaxed we did not want to leave the villa. Local bar grill was 30 seconds walk away very freindly and served lovely traditional greek food. Next door small friendly convenience shop. To be honest we only visited a couple of beaches in lassi which was gorgeous.. But we was quite happy relaxing round the pool. Kefalonia would we recommend it Yes. Herakles 1 would we recommend it Yes yes. Thanks Nigel for all your help we will be coming back hopefully this year.

Owner's reply: We’re pleased you enjoyed you stay at our beautiful holiday Villa, the pool is fantastic and the local beaches are wonderful, we love them too. Thank you for your kind comments. Hope to see you again soon.
