Location description from owner

The Lake Maggiore region

Lake Maggiore is one of the largest lakes of Italy. It belongs to 3 regions : Piemonte, Lombardia and Switzerland. Stresa is situated on the piemontese coast . From Stresa to the Swiss border it takes 1 hour.Stresa is the most famous and attractive town of the lake. The climate is mild. Not too cold during the winter time and not too hot in the summer time. Take a sweather with you for the evenings...The town is located in a strategic position, having Milan at only one hour by car or by train, Turin at only one hour and a half by car or by train and Mount Rosa and the Swiss mountains at only one hour drive.

Stresa

Stresa is a well known little town, famous for its big hotels and the beautiful 3 islands. The boats leave from the harbour which is located in the centre of the town and take you everywhere on the lake, but the most famous places to visit are : Isola Madre, Isola Pescatori, Isola Bella, the botanical gardens of Villa Taranto, the sanctuary of Santa Caterina del Sasso, the market of Intra, Arona and its San Carlo Borromeo statue. From Stresa, you can also take a cable car up to the mount Mottarone from where you can enjoy a wonderful view over 7 lakes. Stresa is also famous for "Settimane musicali" which are several weeks during the summer time dedicated to classical music and operas. The centre of Stresa is a characteristic old Italian little town with shops and typical restaurants. You can sit and enjoy your aperitive while listening to the music coming from a piano bar and then taste a dish of lasagne or risotto on the old market square. If you like playing golf, there are 2 golf grounds up in the hills. If you like playing tennis, you may go to Hotel des iles borromees or Hotel Bristol, or to the town of Lesa. If you like trekking, then just wear a pair of comfortable boots and go!

“Lovely tranquil location with great host”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2013

I visited with my parent in their 70's and 5yo daughter. It suited us well as we enjoyed relaxing in the large garden, whilst my daughter enjoyed playing in the garden. There was plenty of public parking also available in Stresa and so being out of town and driving in was not a problem.

“Amazing lake view and beautiful garden”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2013

Villa la Sacca was perfect! The location of this property is fantastic with truly breathtaking views over the lake and only a few minutes to the centre of Stresa. This was our second visit to Stresa and we would have no hesitation visiting again and staying at this property. Anna and Stefano the hosts could not have been more helpful from booking the property 6 months in advance to greeting us on arrival and being available if we needed them throughout our stay. We arrived 31 May and the weather had been unusually chilly and Anna had lit the fire for us so the apartment was lovely and warm. The apartment easily accommodated us 4 adults and we spent every morning and evening sitting in the beautiful garden overlooking the lake. The apartment is reached through a private electric gate, up a short drive so is lovely and secluded. Visiting the Italian lakes is all about the scenery and this apartment provides that beautifully and we hope one day to return.

“Amazing view of lake with immaculate garden”

Reviewed 25 Nov 2012

The amazing views from this stone house were a pleasant surprise. The house was very spacious for our family of 4 and could accommodate more. The setting and garden are beautiful. Our hostess Anna, really welcomed us and gave lots of travel tips and even drove us into town on the last day. We spent a day island hoping followed by nice restaurants in Stresa and a cab ride home a night.

“Excellent Stay”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2012

Everything was as expectet. Very nice place with fantastiv view on the lake. Great hosts. Good for trips to the surrounding mountains, climbing, relaxin at the lake, visiting the famous islands oder traveling to milano by train (leaves nearly every half hour from stresa).

“The beauty of lago Maggiore”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2012

We traveled to Stresa after a 8 day hike in the Swiss Alps. We were met by Anna at the train station and taken back to Villa La Sacca. The villa was serene and comfortable, just what we needed after a long hike. The views were wonderful and we felt right at home. You are situated some distance from town, which is walkable, but the highway is two lanes with lots of traffic. We found taking the bus, which comes every hour and cab was easier. The cost for a cab ride from town was about 7 euro. We loved having our own kitchen to cook, but Nona will cook to order for a small fee and she knows how to cook. We loved the entrees we ordered. I would highly recommend villa La sacca and hope to go back soon. I found the rental to be a great value as well.

“Perfect view and italianità”

Reviewed 7 Sep 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the Villa sacca very much! Its a lovely, good equiped apartment with a wonderful garden very near to Stresa. The owners, Anna and Stefano are very likeable and take perfect care of everything. Our children were very happy! There's a number of activities in the environment that fit for the little ones.

“nice and relaxing stay”

Reviewed 24 Mar 2012

our stay at la sacca villa was really fine. the house is comfortable, the garden is nice and big, the environment silent and relaxing, though located just a few miles away from the centre of stresa. from there, we were able to reach all the interesting and attractive spots in the surroundings, coming back to a comfortable and warm house for the night. thanks a lot to our guests, anna & stefano, who made this possible. :-)

“Fantastic Lake View”

Reviewed 6 Mar 2012

It is a beautiful apartment with a fantastic view of Lake Maggiore and the Borromeo Islands, I stayed for a long week end in September with my partner and I just loved everything, from the big garden with the pond to the private beach where we could sunbathing, very relaxing and regenerating. It is also a short drive to Switzerland and the Alps, we took the ferry from Verbania and went to visit Lugano in Switzerland, AMAZING. I would definitely recommend it.
