The Warwickshire region

Stratford Upon Avon is the perfect base from which to explore all the best that the Heart of England has to offer. The area includes beautiful countryside immediately surrounding Stratford with wonderful settings along the banks of the river Avon.

Visit the charming villages of the Cotswolds, Worcester and the Malvern Hills and the Castles of Warwick and Kenilworth. Royal Leamington Spa and Warwick are both a short journey by rail or car. Historic Oxford is only a 45 minute drive, as is Birmingham, and London can be reached by an excellent rail service from Stratford Upon Avon.

Stratford Town Centre

The birthplace and final resting place of William Shakespeare, and home to the Royal Shakespeare Company, Stratford Upon Avon is one of the busiest tourist attractions outside London.

Aside from the extensive theatre complexes, you can visit the Bard's birthplace, a half-timbered Tudor house, now restored as a museum, and his wife Anne Hathaway's pretty cottage in the nearby village of Shottery.

The town itself is dominated by Shakespeare's legacy, and guided tours, on foot and by bus, are available. There are an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars and al fresco cafes. Enjoy a drink in the Garrick Inn, one of Stratford's oldest pubs and a favourite haunt for Thespians!

Golf, fishing, tennis and horse-riding are all available nearby and there are pleasure cruises, floating restaurants and self-hire boats for you to enjoy on the River Avon.

"A very nice holiday home"

We stayed in the cottage for one week and found it had everything necessary for a holiday home including a small private outside sitting area.As the weather was good the latter was an added bonus. The location is ideal for all that Stratford has to offer, everything within a few minutes walk. The owners were there to greet us on arrival and showed us everything we needed to know about the property, including the parking, which was very helpful.

"Location, Location, Location!"

We have just got back home after a three night stay at Shakespeare Street and would thoroughly recommend it. The location of the house is excellent- it really is so close to the centre of town for the shops and the rest Stratford has to offer – very blasé but if you are thinking of visiting Stratford you know why! In addition to the convenient location in relation to the centre, there are also two places to eat/ drink at the end of the road (number One and the one elm) which were very pleasant places to visit if you don't want to use the kitchen facilities. There is also a very large retail park including Tesco 5 minutes away. The house itself is on a quiet residential street and although a Victorian terraced house is very light using velux windows and modern. It consists of a largish lounge including a comfortable double sofa bed which joins onto a well equipped kitchen. Upstairs consists of a bedroom with two single beds (good quality and comfortable) and an en suite bathroom consisting of a large bath and a decent shower (sometimes you get one or the other and I think it is a good option to have both!). The house is very well decorated, very well lit and the kitchen is quite amazing. As well as a reasonable sized fridge, excellent storage space, Microwave etc it has a large 6 halogen hob and oven unit which is large enough to cook a very large roast but the kitchen also has equipment to allow you to carve it!. The freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer are in a small outhouse a step away from the back door. The freezer was not on when we arrived so if you plan to self cater it may be advisable to ask Beryl in advance to turn it on. Booking and payment with Beryl was very easy and despite the heavy snow fall before our stay, the welcome we received was very welcoming and we were given a tour and guidance as to the facilities and parking by Beryl and Nigel. Beryl ensured she knew our arrival time and ensured we had her mobile number in case of problems during our stay. Parking is by permit only which is handed over with the keys. Parking regulation varies dependent on the side of the road. Parking is limited so we would recommend you walk as much as possible and use the car as little as possible although the allure of Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa may make you take a risk (there is parking for residents between 6pm and 8am so you can park but need to get up early to move your vehicle). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shakespeare Street. We have rated our stay as Excellent. Our only concern was the velux skylight in the bedroom could really do with a blind as a light sleeper may find it difficult to go back to sleep after sunrise once awake. This had been mentioned in the guest book on a couple of occasions- I think once the blind is in place the house will be perfect and fully booked all year round :-)

Thank you for your kind comments and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you to our cottage again. We have taken on board that some guests feel there is a need for a blind at the velux window in the bedroom and therefore we shall be installing one soon.

"Excellent comfortable and convenient base to explore Stratford"

We have stayed twice now and plan to have another short trip in May 2012. The house is extremely comfortable, with quality furnishings, all necessary equipment, good use of space. We enjoyed the sun last year in the outside area. The house is ideal for Stratford, not too busy but within easy reach of shops, restaurants. Wi fi is available too. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your kind comments. We look forward to welcoming you back to the cottage in May.
