St Stephen Street is in the heart of Stockbridge - an almost-village in the New Town of Edinburgh. Stockbridge has a bohemian, arty vibe, with lots of galleries, vintage shops and boutiques. It also has a famous butcher, fishmonger and artisan cheesemonger (who supplies most of Scotland's top restaurants). The bar and restaurant scene is also thriving here.
This is a stunning garden apartment, with an open and airy feel, large windows and fabulous french doors in the bedroom. It has been decorated in a French 'shabby chic' style, with stripped wooden floors and reclaimed doors throughout.

Sit at the bistro table and enjoy coffee and croissants while watching the wall-mounted LCD or reading the paper, before you head out into the city.

This is a truly stunning bedroom. It is decorated again in French 'shabby chic' style and features a charming, double wardrobe, chest of drawers and a full-length mirror. But the key feature of this room has to be the French doors that lead out to a secret courtyard full of geranium pots, herbs and flowers. You can sit here in peace and quiet in your pyjamas and listen to the birdsong before hitting the hustle and bustle of the world outside. It is truly a haven in the middle of the city.
The bathroom is utterly charming, and features a Mira Sport power shower, French artefacts and a stunning blue glass sink. There is underfloor heating and plenty of soft, white towels to keep you warm when you emerge from the shower.

The Midlothian region
Stockbridge is an almost-village in the New Town of Edinburgh. It has a bohemian, arty vibe, with lots of galleries, vintage shops, craft and gift shops and boutiques. It also has a famous butcher, fishmonger and artisan cheesemonger (who supplies most of Scotland's top restaurants). Check out the vinyl shop if you hanker after good old 7 and 12 inch recordings instead of this modern digital stuff!
There are loads of bars, cafes and restaurants ranging from the best loved Pizza Express in Edinburgh (it's always full!) to fine dining in the Stockbridge restaurant.
If you like a good rummage around, then go to the famous Sunday market and mingle with the locals.
St Stephen Street has a warm, friendly feel - all the shop keepers say hello and they'll tell you when the traffic warden is coming! It really is Edinburgh's version of Notting Hill. Once experienced, never forgotten!
Edinburgh is one of Scotland's top tourist destinations, with the annual Edinburgh Festival and Fringe and Hogmanay festivities being key events for the thousands of visitors who come to the capital every year.
Visit the castle, Holyrood Palace and the Royal Mile to experience some of Edinburgh's history. Once you get to the top of the Mile you can indulge in some well-earned whisky tasting at the famous Scotch Whisky Experience.
There are museums full of interesting artefacts and many wonderful galleries and exhibitions, including the Royal Scottish Academy on Princes Street and the Gallery of Modern Art, which is set in stunning gardens and has a wonderful cafe.
If music and theatre is your thing, then the Festival and Fringe have it all. Outwith the summer months, there's always a great show or play on somewhere in the capital. There are also art house cinemas such as the Film House and the Cameo or two multi-screen Omni cinemas for mainstream films.
Golf lovers can take a trip to Muirfield or St Andrews to indulge their habit. Both courses are a short car journey or train ride away.
There are some beautiful beaches in East Lothian, again accessible by a short car or train journey. Or if you prefer to stay in the city, Cramond Beach is only 4 miles or 6 km away.
Whatever your interest, Edinburgh can cater for it.

"Peaceful 'pied a terre' in sophisticated, yet funky area of the city, just ten minutes walk from Princes Street."
Spent a week in St. Stephen's Street in August, when the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe were in full swing. This is a great little basement flat in a lovely residential area, which also happens to be fully stocked with restaurants, bars, vintage shops and, my favourite, a great Italian Café, where I enjoyed fabulous coffee and pastries most mornings. My friend and I were in Edinburgh to enjoy the Fringe and on booking the flat originally, I was a little worried about location, but there's no doubt I'd stay here again. Whilst I admit to enjoying a somewhat brisk walk, (I made the Traverse Theatre from the flat in about 20 minutes door to door one morning and it's uphill all the way) we had many a pleasant stroll back to St Stephen's street at the end of a long day's theatre-going and it was such a joy to be able to leave the packed streets and retreat to somewhere more quiet to mull over the day and wind down. Despite a goodly number of bars and restaurants in St. Stephen's street itself (and a great little pub just opposite the church, which stayed open brilliantly late!) the street was extremely quiet - just the ticket after a show and a few drams in the George Street Spiegeltent, just a 5-7 minute walk away. The flat itself felt comfortable, characterful, yet modern and tastefully furnished and the owners were extremely helpful from start to finish. The flat is absolutely superb for one or a couple staying in the same room, although if you require use of the (instant) inflatable airbed that will need to go in the living area, which of course takes up a bit of room - that didn't bother us and the space was still extremely light and comfortable. This is a great location for both exploring the city as a tourist and for spending a little time living 'like a local'. Highly recommended.

"Absolutly gorgeous, perfect location, cosy, homely, all you really need!"
This apartment is really lovely, It is so nicely decorated the shutters and the French doors in the garden are beautiful, also very handy for us there was some basics there like shampoo, conditioner, tea sugar coffee and cleaning products, The area of Stockbridge is very nice and we were very glad to stay there. I highly recommend staying there much better value then a hotel and you have more scope and feel more comfortable.
