Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Welcome to Edinburgh, the inspiring capital of Scotland, where centuries of history meet a vibrant, cosmopolitan city in an unforgettable setting. Discover stunning scenery, striking architecture and fine food, and beautiful coast and countryside in the nearby Lothians. From the world's festival capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site to world-class visitor attractions and exhilarating outdoor pursuits, Edinburgh & The Lothians is a must-visit on anyone's list.Edinburgh is a hive of cultural activity, and nowhere is this better seen than in the city's festivals. With performing arts, music, drama, exhibitions, films, comedy and talks, the outpouring of creativity during Edinburgh's festivals is second to none. With everything from Highland games to fascinating local events, there is lots going on across the Lothians too.

Stockbridge

Stockbridge has a definite Bohemian vibe and many artists, musicians, poets, writers and thespians have made the area their home. Over the years famous residents have included, portrait artist Sir Henry Raeburn, poet James Hogg, surgeon Sir James Young Simpson and more recently actor Norman Lovett and the lead singer of the band 'Garbage', Shirley Manson. The original Mrs Doubtfire or "Madame Doubtfire" lived and ran a rag and bone shop in South East Circus Place, Stockbridge. The novelist Anne Fine who also lived in the area was inspired by the name which remained faded above her shop (now a solicitors) many years after Madame Doubtfire's death. Her novel of the same name was in turn the inspiration for the movie based on her book, although Robin William's character bares little resemblence to the 'real' Madame Doubtfire.Stockbridge is home to a wealth independent amenities, including artisan bakeries, butchers, cheesemongers and coffee shops. All these goodies can be sampled along the high street or at the Stockbridge Market which runs all day on a Sunday and is located directly opposite the apartment. For those interested in vintage clothing, Stockbridge's charity shops are well known in Edinburgh as offering some of the best high quality vintage clothing in the city. Amongst the vast quantities of clothing, you might just spot a real designer gem!The nightlife options in Stockbridge are vast, with both Michelin star and budget restaurants on your doorstep. Again, there is an assortment of different bars, everything from a huge range of local whiskies at the The Stockbridge Tap to scrummy cocktails at Hamiltons.

“Hogmanay in Edinburgh”

Reviewed 18 Jan 2015

We rented this holiday apartment in Edinburgh for our Hogmanay celebrations with friends. On arrival we were welcomed to this lovely apartment, which was clean and well maintained by a little Christmas tree. Such a great personal touch, which I adored. From living in Edinburgh during student years, I was aware that the location of stockbridge would be perfect for what we were looking for. It's in walking distance of the centre of town and the street party celebrations, but always has lots of nice little bars and cafes on the door step. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Edinburgh, and would definitely consider renting this property again in the future.

Thank you very much for the review and I'm so pleased to hear that you had a wonderful Hogmanay in our beautiful city. I look forward to welcoming you back to the apartment again soon.

“Great service, clean and tidy accommodation in a great location”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

From the start the booking process was quick and simple, with a quick response from the owner. When we arrived we were greeted and instantly felt at home. The flat itself was spacious, bright and clean with everything you could need to make you feel comfortable on a short stay or a longer trip. The location is in the middle of Stockbridge, which is a fantastic area of town walking distance to the city centre, with cafes, restaurants and bars to suit anyone's taste. The owners again were very helpful, providing contact details and ensuring we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. Couldn't fault anything about the experience.

Thank you very much for the review and I look forward to welcoming you back to the apartment again soon.
