“Wish we were still there”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2012

We spent a fortnight here - leaving the second week of September. What a delightful cottage in a cozy part of Edinburgh. We were a 15-minute walk from the city center (and only a 4-minute walk to our local, The Stockbridge Tap). The botanic garden was 10 minutes away, and we spent some time almost every day in that wonderful place. The cottage is everything a couple would need - in great condition with a well-equipped kitchen and lovely shower. Local tips: We enjoyed the Italian Kitchen, loved having the library so close, perused the many charity shops several times. PLUS, the Stockbridge Market is on every Sunday all year. We look forward to returning.

“Stunning cottage, perfect location, shame about the parking”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2012

This cottage is beautiful; the pictures don’t even do it justice. It was a lovely place to stay and had everything we could possibly need. The location was great and was easy walking distance from everything we wanted to see. The only thing that spoiled our stay slightly was a miscommunication about parking. We were told that permits were required to park at the cottage and that they were available from the owners for £1 each. What we were not told was that you have to display 6 PER DAY if you want to leave the car all day. Our stay was for 2 weeks so it was not practical or cost effective for us to leave the car here all the time, meaning we had to park 15mins away from the cottage and walk every time we wanted to use / leave the car. Had we known this prior to arriving we might have booked a different cottage, as the central location and availability of parking had been what attracted us. Having said that, I would still go back because it was such a nice place to stay, but next time I’ll leave the car at home.

“A Little Treasure”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2011

How lucky were we to find this little gem from the comfort of our home in Melbourne, Australia. The little cottage was perfect for the two of us, the housekeeper had even done some shopping for us. The cottage contains everything you would want for a holiday, a comfy bed, spotless bathroom and kitchen and even a washing machine! It was within walking distance of all the beautiful attractions of Edinburgh. The Botanic Gardens were within walking distance also, although if you are feeling a bit lazy there is a bus stop quite near. We loved our time in Edinburgh and particularly Colville Cottage and its surrounding area and would definitely return.
