“Hen party”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2017

I booked the barn for my friends hen party. We had 16 ladies and had a ball. To start with Susan was lovely and very helpful. She answered all emails and phone calls very quickly. The house was fantastic we particularly used the kitchen area which was amazing and great for all our needs. The ladies loved going for a walk and the scenery was spectacular. We are thinking of having a get together again as we loved it so much and would definitely use the barn again. If we had any complaints it was an early start on the Sunday with 10am departure but kelso was 5mins away with a lovely garden centre so breakfast and the much needed coffee was just what we needed to finish our weekend party. Thank you Susan for the use of your beautiful home.

“Great holiday let property!”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2017

We had a wonderful time staying at The Barn. Susan came out to meet us as soon as we arrived and she was lovely...., Very helpful and welcoming. She showed us around the fantastic property and we were delighted with every area. The kitchen/dining area is the "wow" factor of The Barn and is just perfect for celebrating, partying or family gatherings. Beautiful flag stones through this area, which adds to the character. Plenty kitchen utensils, pots/pans and crockery etc for even a full occupancy. The property was clean, with good bedding and comfy beds. Susan recommended a couple of restaurants to try in nearby Kelso (£8-£9 in a taxi one way), and we chose The Cobbles. This turned out to be one of the best meals we have ever experienced when eating out. We are very hard to please and do enjoy well cooked and tasty food. The Cobbles exceeded our expectations and we cannot recommend it enough. Advisable to book but we did walk in and took a table in the bar rather than the restaurant which was ok for us. Lots to do and see around Stichell, Kelso is a lovely town with plenty pubs, cafes and restaurants. A few quirky shops and a few supermarkets (co-op & a large Sainsbury). Cannot recommend The Barn enough, we will definitely be back! It would of been a nice touch to have some kind of hi-fi or music system to play music on. But guests could easy bring their own. Thank you Susan & Arthur for a lovely time.

“Ideal for family gatherings”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2017

Beautiful quiet location in small village with great views of the surrounding countryside. Close to a larger town, Kelso for restaurants etc. Friendly and helpful owners live on site. Lots of beds, 2 showers and 2 baths. Well equipped kitchen. Large dining area/ kitchen ideal for large groups or families. We had a lovely family weekend here over Easter. Note that there is no wifi in the house

“Surprise birthday weekend”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2017

Everything about our stay at The Barn was perfect. We were warmly welcomed when we got there and Susan and Arthur had arranged ballons, banners and a cake for my dad's 70th surprise. The house was immaculately presented and was well stocked with everything we needed. It was great for the 3 wee kids too, with a bedroom that was perfect for them. We took advice for eating places from the owners and were not disappointed. We will definitely be back! The only thing we would like to see was an enclosed garden so the dog couldn't roam too far. Stunning house and stunning surroundings with a playpark right beside the house what more could we ask.

“Feels like our second home!”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2016

This was our second stay at Stichill Mains. Again Susan & Arthur made us feel so welcome. Such a fab home we all felt so at home and due to the size you never feel like you are on holiday with 11 people! We will be back xx

“Fantastic house in beautiful setting”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2016

We stayed at Stichill mains for a special birthday celebration with extended family. The property was fabulous and in a lovely setting. The house was equipped with everything we needed and plenty of space for us all, including all the children. The kitchen/diner was brilliant and when we weren't out or in the garden, we spent all of our time in it. The owners were very friendly and helpful but respectful of space and privacy for us to enjoy our stay. We have stayed in many rental properties in Scotland and abroad but would definitely recommend Stichill Mains. We will return.

“Absolutely the best location for exploring the Scottish Borders”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2016

Fishing and Shooting paradise, the owner has a wealth of experience in both fields, took my friend and I to the tweed to fish for salmon and I was very successful. If your a complete novice it dosn't matter Arthur will fix you up with the tackle to catch the king of the tweed.

“Golf Holiday”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2013

Excellent accommodation decorated to a very high standard. Although there were four couples, there was plenty of room to both mingle as a group or enjoy your own space. The bedrooms were very well equipped and again decorated to a high standard. Susan and Arthur were great hosts and were always available to offer advice on places to visit and restaurants to eat. All in all an excellent place to stay. Highly recommended by all eight of us. The accommodation is ideally located for exploring the Scottish Borders or in our case playing golf with numerous courses to choose from.

“Wonderful Holiday Home”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2013

Our family stayed at Stichill Mains the weekend of Friday, 19th - Sunday 21st July 2013 to celebrate Mum's 85th birthday. Our party consisted of 4 generations - Mum, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. From the outset, Susan and Arthur couldn't have been more kind and helpful, their hospitality was second to none. The house is stunning and definitely has the 'Wow' factor. In fact the grandchildren had the camcorder out and made their own version of MTV's 'Welcome to my Crib'!!! The kitchen/dining room was where we spent most of our time - it is so large and ideal for family get-togethers, we all enjoyed sitting round the table chatting. The weather was fantastic too so we spent a lot of time sitting outside on the patio. The beds were so comfortable, a good night's sleep was guaranteed. There were also plenty of bath/shower rooms to keep our family happy. I cannot think of one single negative thing to say. Most importantly, mum had a wonderful time surrounded by her family. Thank you so much Susan and Arthur for a wonderful stay and look forward to sampling your hospitality again in the future.
