The New South Wales region

The Illawarra Coast is spectactular and Stanwell Park is famous as a surfing beach, tourist destination and for the hanggliders off Bald Hill. On a clear day wonderful views towards Wollongong from the lookout at Bald Hill. Great for watching the hanggliders and whale watching in the right season.

Bushwalking is popular in the area or neighbouring Royal National Park.

A short drive south from Stanwell Park along the spectacular coast road will bring you to Coalclif. The seapool and fabulous rockplatform are accessed from the park. Don't miss the walk or drive across the suspended Sea Cliff bridge.

Further south is Wombarra Beach and oceanpool. It also has a smaller but still lovely rockplatform then onto Scarbourough Pub

Lovely place for lunch with a view.

Stanwell Park

Stanwell Park has an art gallery and shops, cafes and restaurant.

Clsoe by is the Hindu Temple at Helensburgh and Symbio Wildlife gardens

Great little private zoo for children and animal lovers. Has a good range of Australian animals for the overseas visitors and also some Tigers etc. Good informative talks and you can pat the odd wallaby or twenty.

The Helensburgh Nursery with cafe and the golf driving range and Putt Putt golf range are walking distance from Symbio Wildlife gardens.

Horseriding

Get a taste for the forest with the trail rides at Otford farm which is a short drive back up Bald Hill. There are pony rides for the smaller children and longer trail rides for older children and adults.

Hang gliding

There are quite a few hang gliding schools in the area and most do tandem glides. Highly recommended for a bird’s eye view of the spectacular coastline and national park treetops.
