Rouladina Apartment 1
To the side of the apartment and reached via a path from the driveway this, the largest apartment, has an open plan living room with picture windows to the front overlooking a semi circular balcony. To the rear and just one step higher, is the equally spacious kitchen. An archway off the living room leads to an inner hallway with adjoining bathroom and shower room. To the rear of the hallway are 2 twin bedrooms, one of which has patio doors to the rear of the property with views to the hillside vineyards. Off the hallway to the front is a double bedroom with large picture windows and glorious seaviews. This apartment is ideal for clients with limited mobility being on the ground floor and with only one small step up to the entrance and one interior step.

All these have an open plan living area with sofa and easy chairs, plus coffee and dining tables. A pine breakfast bar separates the well equipped kitchens with ample cupboard space and work surfaces, plus full electric cookers, sensibly large fridge freezers, microwave and coffee machine.

A particular feature of these apartments is the large picture windows or floor to ceiling patio doors at the front of each apartment, making the most of the sea views, whilst double glazing keeps the heat outside where it belongs. For those families with an extra person to accommodate, the sofa in the living room converts into a single bed. All apartments have their own private balconies or terraces complete with patio furniture.
Manolis and Dimitra, the proud owners of these crete apartments with pools holidays accommodation are Greek Canadians, who finally decided to return to their Cretan roots along with their daughters Roula and Dina. They have their own apartment upstairs and take care of the property and their guests with a perfect combination of discreet Canadian efficiency and genuine Cretan hospitality. Be warned that Dimitra makes the most delicious cakes and other Cretan specialities which she loves her guests to try, so if you are intent on keeping in shape during the holiday, it may take a little more discipline than you counted on.

Location description from manager

The Chania Prefecture region

Still relatively refreshingly authentic our old favorite West Crete & Chania just waits to be explored. Here, the magnificent White Mountains bestride the landscape and melted snow from their high slopes waters the fertile coastal plains, where orange, lemon and olive groves flourish and superb fruit and vegetables of every description grow in amazing profusion. This part also boasts some of the island`s best beaches, especially the coast west which is one long 15km stretch of sandy beach broken by rocky outcrops and bustling villages with numerous waterside tavernas, virtually untouched by time or tourism.

Stalos

Stalos, Crete

7 km west of Chania, the village of Lower Stalos fringes a long, sandy beach with the island of Theodorou, said to be a petrified sea monster, rising from the sea just a short distance off shore. There are numerous small pensions and apartments as well as half a dozen convenient little mini-markets and an excellent little patisserie, selling delicious fresh baguettes and croissants. There are also a number of waterside tavernas with shady terraces overlooking the sea and teenagers can chill out at one of the atmospheric palm thatched beach bars. 1km inland the small village of Upper Stalos nestles serenely on the hillside amidst a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves.

Here you will find a slower pace of life as well as a couple of the best local tavernas in the area, both certainly worth a visit or two.

“We had a nice vacation but cannot recomend the price/value.”

Reviewed 3 Dec 2013

Don't get me wrong, we had a mostly nice stay, but in all the price/value equation was not what we expected. The apartment had lots of little foibles that kept us feeling irritated. For example, the kitchen cabinet with the cooking utensils opened into the side of the stove... the toilets were tricky to flush... there was a step in the middle of the living room that we kept banging our toes on... the air conditioner was just in the living room, so bedrooms heated up and if you opened the window, the landlady came and threatened to charge you for the wasted electicity.... the front door knob came off in my hand... and the beds were honest to god the worst I have ever experienced, loud and squeaky and terribly uncomfortable. I wouldn't really mind all these little problems much if we wouldn't have been paying an arm and a leg! My kids loved the beach, there were plenty of good restaurants in the area, the weather was gorgeous, and I must say the apartment was quiet, no street noise or parties going on all night. My advice to the owners would be to either invest in some upgrades or reduce your price so that visitors get what they are expecting.

“Rouladina hit the spot!”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2013

I hadn't been to Crete for a few years and my sister had never been to Greece. I chose Rouladina as ir was on the hill, looking down over Kato Stalos, where I had my first holiday on Crete back in the early 1980s. I searched and searched the net and spotted Rouladina on the Freelance Holidays website. I contacted Freelance and Chris took care of things from there.- what a good company. We flew out from Glasgow on Jet2 (excellent) and overnighted in Heraklion. We drove through to Kato Stalos next day and arrived at Rouladina a bit early - excellent directions, etc., by Freelance. We were met by Dimitra, the owner, who welcomed us in , showed us where to freshen up and brought us cake, chilled water and fresh juice. We had a nice get together with Dimitra, the epitome of Cretan friendliness. My sister was relaxed and in Cretan mood instantly. I just felt like I'd come back home - as I always do on Crete. After a while Joanna, who looks after the cleaning, etc., appeared - another smiling welcome- and we went up to our appartment. You can see the photographs on the Freelance site and they are certainly spot on. We had a double bedroom each , one with en suite and the other using the bathroom between the two rooms. Well, what more to say? Excellent, very spacious, immaculately clean accomodation. The best equipped kitchen that I've seen on my many, many Cretan and Greek visits. And Dimitra's lovely walnut cake and olive oil (and the raki and wine). All in all, absolutely first class but not forgetting the friendliness of Dimitra, Manolis and Joanna, who really did make a difference. The pool and poolside was so well looked after and we really wanted for nothing there, either. And the beds were wonderfull. We slept like contented babies every night. I make a special mention of the beds as they can make or break a holiday. I'll mention, also, the excellent home cooking at the taverna, Amethystos, just 50 or so metres up the hill. A local, Stalos, family and really very different - Cretan food not just mass market Greek - although you will get a Mousaka to die for if it's on. Try the beef in honey. Would we return? Well, let's just say that my sister's introduction to Crete was such that she has fallen in love with the island just as her older brother (me) did all those years ago. To sum up - perfect Company in Freelance, perfect hosts in Dimitra, Manolis and Joanna and excellent back up locally by Diana who provided a virtual book of real information about the island and the Chania region. It was an introductory week for my sister this year - it'll be two weeks next time - same apartment.

“Beautiful Place”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2012

Very nice apartment, nice facilities, and great hosts. A little walk up the hill from the town, which meant that we drove down and parked most of the time. Nice town with good restaurants and a short drive drive to Chania. Hosts told us how to drive and where to park and we had no problem visiting the city almost every day. Nice drives up the coast and up into the mountains. Can do Samaria gorge using the bus from Chania.
