Pelican is a beautifully refurbished quirky yet contemporary 3-storey village town house offering comfortable accommodation for larger groups and families. Situated in the cobbled heart of old Staithes - walk out of the back door and watch the ever changing tidal beck or stroll out from the front into the unspoilt high street with its traditional gift shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants. The harbour, beach and rock pools are an easy few minutes walk away. For more adventurous walkers, Staithes is situated on the Cleveland Way with excellent walks both north and south from the village. Staithes also has a well established artist community, renowned art gallery and annual arts festival held in September.

It is also the home of the popular children's BBC series Old Jack's Boat. we have a lovely view across the beck to Old Jack's house from two of the bedrooms.

Pelican is in the heart of the village and when you're there you'll really feel part of Staithes life. It's one of the few larger properties in old Staithes so plenty of room for family and friends to stay. Enjoy sipping a glass or two in our outdoor courtyard with seating and wandering down to the bridge glass in hand to watch the sunset.

Getting around

All you need is in the village but if you fancy going further afield just hop on the bus at the top of the hill. There's a regular service to Whitby (via Sandsend) and to Saltburn and Middlesborough. There's also train stations at all three of these towns..

“Gorgeous Seaside Gem of a House”

This seaside gem is just perfect. The location is fabulous - (overlooking the beck) and the interior is lovely. There are so many lovely touches but the ones that made our stay feel super luxurious were the ready loaded bean to cup coffee machine, the fab speaker, Egyptian cotton sheets and tv with Netflix. Thank you Sarah. We will be back!

Beautiful house with everything you need. Easy booking and communication with Sarah. Beds are incredibly comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped with an amazing coffee machine. Loved the blue tooth speaker! Perfect location with all you will need in close vicinity. Welcome break away during these trying times. Weather was appalling but cant blame that on you! Thank you once again

Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay in Staithes. An absolute gem. We couldn’t have had a better base location and thoroughly recommend the Pelican with its warm and cosy feel which had plenty of room for 3 adults and our two dogs. The welcome goodies were generous and very much appreciated and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. The owners have an eye for design and have decorated to a nice standard. Staithes is small with a great little beach for a quick walk with the dogs and great pubs, all within a few minutes walk. Our favourite for atmosphere was the Cod and Lobster but the Royal George also does very good food. The butchers do the best pork pies we’ve ever had! Within easy distance of Whitby and the wonderful beaches of Sandsend and Saltburn, not to mention Runswick and Robins Hood Bay. Would recommend the Steam train from Grosmont to Pickering and taking a trip on the minor roads right through the National Park.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Sarah (the owner) a message.

If Sarah (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
