Peeler's Rest is self-catering holiday accommodation located in the picturesque fishing of Staithes, near Whitby, on the north east coast of England. Whether you enjoy coast or country a visit to Staithes offers the best of both worlds. Peeler's Rest joins on to the village's former police house which was built in the 1920's. The single storey building was added some years later and formed the police office. The present owners have transformed the office into a bedroom, lounge, kitchen area and shower room. The property can now accommodate up to 2 adults with all the facilities required for a comfortable and relaxing break away. We are open to negotiation on the length of stay so call if you need to.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. Out of 42 reviews all are either 4 or 5 star except yours. I always think this says more about the reviewer than the property/owner. Please let me address some of the points you raised. Many self-catering cottages now have key boxes and you don't meet the owner or anyone else. I was at work when you arrived but provided you with clear instructions well before your visit. Light bulbs can go at any time but I replaced the one in the bedside lamp as soon as you informed me. I also showed you how to use the TV, which works perfectly - this was operator error. I provide all bedding, towels, tea towels, dish cloth, washing up liquid, cleaning spray etc. Please remember this is a self catering let and as such you may need to provide somethings that you want yourself. No one has ever complained about the size of the bathroom and the shower cubicle is probably larger than most - certainly not smaller. T he first I knew there was a problem with the glass shower door was when i went in to clean after you left. I found it completely off its runners propped up in the cubicle. Fortunately I was able to re-install the door. Such a shame you didn't have the decency to inform me you had broken it prior to leaving. There is an extractor fan in the bathroom that comes on when the light is switched on - provided no one fiddles with the switches!! The radiator does indeed run from the main house heating and will only be on if the heating is on. The valves are left open. On one hand you said it didn't give you heat but on the other hand you said the room is stuffy. I'm pleased you enjoyed the free car parking on the drive - I remember you left your car there for 3 hours after checking out whilst you had lunch in the village!! Is this bad review because i wouldn't let your wife use the toilet after I had thoroughly cleaned the property ready for the next guests when you returned to your car? I think as a larger elderly person you'd be better suited to booking the luxury hotels you've become accustomed to.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Lee (the owner) a message.

If Lee (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
