Location description from owner

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Languedoc is a diverse region offering something for everyone.

The endless sandy beaches edged by the blue azure Mediterranean sea proves an ideal location to enjoy the record breaking sunshine days. For those who are energetic there is scuba diving, jet skiing, wind surfing or sailing, for those that are not, there are numerous beach bars to try where you can drink exotic cocktails or just soak up the sun on a sun lounger

The towns and villages with their historical heritage in evidence give the visitor an unique insight of times gone by, where wars were once staged to gain riches that Languedoc harbored.

No trip to the region is complete without experiencing the vibrancy of a 'French ' market held nearly every day somewhere in the region. This is truly a colorful local gathering with fresh food producers and artisans standing side by side shouting their wares.

As France's biggest wine producing area, a trip to one of the many wineries is a must and will prove to be an enjoyable experience as you taste the many varieties of wine the region can offer.

The mountainous area to the north and to the west offers meandering walks back in time, challenging rock climbs, exhilarating canyoning and kayaking and spectacular drives through the limestone scenery.

Add to this the numerous fetes and festivals throughout the year and you have all the ingredients to enjoy the French 'Joie de vivre' as you spend your holiday here in Languedoc.

Saint-Thibery

Situated to the south of Pezenas, this ancient historical village of 2000 people has existed since Roman times.

The village is built on the edge of a volcano and is where the Herault and Thongue river come together. The old part of the village is surrounded by a dyke to stop flooding.

The Celts once lived here and the Romans built a road (Via Domitia) through the village. Within the village boundaries you will find a Roman Bridge, an early medieval corn mill and bridge, and a Benedictine Abbey.

The church in the centre of the village has been a place of pilgrimage for those passing through on the 'Santaigo de Compestilla' since those times and many of the 15th century houses still remain intact.

The village is surrounded by vineyards and it's old Celtic name of Cessero is given to one of its appellations.

St Thibery, although expanded still retains the authenticity of rural France with its many traditions and festivals.

Look out for the annual jazz festival as well as the motor cross competitions. The village has two bread shops, a small grocery shop, two cafes, a post office, a wine cave and tennis courts.

There are lots of small roads for cycling, beach is about 15 mins by car, and there is a nice walk to an old Roman bridge.

Situated inbetween the larger charming towns of Pézenas and Agde accessible by a bus service and not far away by car.Local beaches of Cap D'Agde/Grau D'Agde are approx 15 mins by car.

In Agde there is an SNCF train station for sightseeing to large cities of Beziers; Montpellier, Narbonne, Carcassonne, Perpignan and further afield.
