Location description from owner
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
This area offers you a quieter and more untouched Provence. With a warm and welcoming climate, you will find yourself nestled amongst vineyards, olive trees, cypress trees and lavender fields. The countryside is unspoilt and the towns a treasure. Culturally the area offers the Pont du Gard (10 minutes from house), the beautiful Roman city of Nimes which offers historical interest as well as diverse shopping opportunities, and the Papal grand city of Avignon (both 30 minutes away). Avignon, Orange and Aix-en-Provence all hold prestigious music and theatre festivals throughout the summer months and there is also the wonderful city of Arles, made particularly famous by artists such as Van Gogh and Picasso.
The wild beauty and endless, unspoilt beaches of the Camargue are less than an hour away. Famous for its wild white horses and pink flamingoes, and indeed seafood, the Camargue is a land like no other. Canoeing and horse-riding can also be enjoyed in the dramatic landscape of the Ardeche gorges to the north. With the beautiful walled city of Aigues-Mortes to discover as well as being less than an hour from Provencal treasures such as Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Gordes, a holiday in this area is guaranteed not to disappoint!
Uzes is internationally famous for its absolute and gloriously preserved grandeur. Allow yourself to get lost in its streets and it will open its secrets such as its impressive Duchy, its baroque-type Cathedral and Eglise St-Etienne. The striking 'Place aux Herbes' lies in the centre of the town with its vaulted arcades, its many restaurants and its renowned Provençal market twice a week.
Festivals are held in all villages and towns throughout the summer and all types of outdoor activities are available nearby. In summer there is also the famous bull run through the streets of Uzes. Be sure to discover the Gardon gorges just 6 kilometres away which not only offer a dramatic landscape but also the option of kayaking to the Pont du Gard and beaches for swimming.
The village of St.Siffret itself is an ancient but well preserved village with several restaurants, a bar and village.

“Amazing place...fantastic hosts”
I had a great week at Mark and George's studio. Superb, newly and tastefully renovated gite in the best village around Uzes.Perfect base to explore the area. Thank you for your warm hospitality and advice. I really enjoyed staying in your beautiful house.I felt very much at home.I was welcomed like a friend and hope to be back soon.
We enjoyed a wonderful 2 week holiday at Mark's fantastic home. The house has so many comfortable areas to sit, eat, drink the lovely local wine and chat, whether it be on the sun terrace enjoying the fabulous Provençal sun, under the shade of the courtyard at the dining table, or inside the comfortable and tastefully furnished house itself. Our 2 children spent hours in the fantastic pool which was discretely and regularly checked and cleaned by Mark himself. St Siffret itself is a small village which so much charm and character. Nearby you will find Uzes whilst Nimes, Avignon, The Camargue, Pont du Gard, and Arles are all within easy driving distance. There are plenty of local supermarkets including a large Carefour for those who enjoy practicing their culinary skills and making the most of the house. A real privilege to be able to stay at this beautiful home - we had a memorable holiday and would strongly recommend it to others. Thanks Mark.
“Beautiful accommodation in an excellent location”
It felt a privilege to stay in Mark's beautiful home, which is only a few miles from the stunning city of Uzes. The house was charmingly furnished and we relaxed into our holiday instantly. The large, shady courtyard was perfect for long lunches, there was a cosy seated area for quiet reading and evening drinks, and a large terrace for lying in the sun. We had a wonderful week and would highly recommend this property.
This property is beautiful, clean and spacious. It has great charm and is in a quiet rural area - car rental is a must to get to surrounding towns. We took day trips to Nimes and Avignon, both easily accessible. The property is comfortable and the pool is a great bonus once you've worked up the courage to brave the cold. The roof terrace is where we spent most of the time, space for 6 loungers, blazing sunshine overhead....overlooking the table in the courtyard where we had put out lunch. One of the most relaxing and happy weeks I have ever had, recommend +++
“Best place we've ever booked..... we'd go back in a heartbeat”
The only hesitation we have about talking about this place is that once people realize how wonderful it is, it may be booked up when we try to go back. The location was outstanding. There is a really great feel to the little town (St. Siffret), from the impressive restaurant just around the corner, to the cranky cat that appeared to be guarding our car. Both my wife and I were training for a race, so spent several days jogging in the area. It was so incredible to run past the sunflower fields, a short km away from the house. One morning, just to impress my wife and daughter, I ran into Uzes (5 km one way) and bought fresh croissants, prior to jogging back. We ate them in the sunshine of the little deck off the upper kitchen. It was too perfect. The layout of the lower area and the upper pool deck made just staying close to home an event. You have to look really closely at the pictures to get a feel for what really is (at least for us) a unique layout. Great spots to either lay in the sun, have an outdoor dinner in the shade under a stone arch, or sit in the separate outdoor sitting area reading a book or drinking the local wine (very nice rose on a hot day). We spent a few more dollars on this place than several of the others we went to over the past few years, but it was completely worth every penny we spent. It was just a wonderful experience for our family from top to bottom.
“Magnificent - in every way”
We have stayed here for the past three years, and - in over twenty five years of taking properties in this area - this has been the best and most spectacular success. The House is discreetly stylish, beautifully appointed, and affords wonderful scenery and ultimate relaxation: swimming in the pool and reading on the sun terace could not be bettered. The owners are self-effacing and attentive (a difficult one to bring off, but they do it). A particular charm of the house is the opportunity it allows to eat under the stone arches on the ground floor level - atmospheric, spacious and comfortable. We like the area immensely - locally, there are excellent walks, a very good restaurant within the village and (our preferred) a terrific pizzeria. Being only three miles from Uzes is a treat in its own right (but be warned - the traffic within the town can build up early). This is a perfect place to go with your family, or with your friends. Just the thought of it has sometimes kept us going during the cruel winter months in the UK!
Thank you John and Susan, it was such a pleasure having you. The cheese you left was delicious and Susan, we went for a walk and a family of wild boar crossed our path! Really! We thought of you of course!
