St. Remy de Provence retains the charm of an old market town and yet provides plenty of facilities, such as a great variety of restaurants and shops selling locally produced goods.
The Wednesday market is not to be missed... and local festivities (“fetes”) take place in and around the town throughout the year, but particularly during the summer months.

The area is famous for its artists (Van Gogh for example), past and present, who have always been attracted by the vivid light and magic colours of the local countryside.

There is plenty to do in the area... golf, beach (only a 45 minute drive away), gliding, hot air ballooning, rock climbing, mountain bike riding, horse riding, tennis and plenty more...

Gorgeous countryside with fascinating medieval sites and amazing Roman remains.

The Provence region

Gorgeous countryside with fascinating medieval sites and amazing Roman remains.

The picturesque old market town of St. Rémy an easy stroll away from the gite, the pine-covered slopes and limestone peaks of the Alpilles mountain range humming with the sound of cicadas during the height of summer, plus its wealth of historical sites and artistic associations, this area for many epitomises Provence.

The area offers some of the best of Provencal life - beautiful villages of honey-coloured stone, lively and colourful markets, great restaurants and café bars. Superbly preserved Roman sites and delightful medieval towns, museums and art galleries.

The gourmet delights range from the Appellation d'Origine Controllé olive oil to the many good wines produced by a wide choice of domains and this rich agricultural area produces the tastiest of fruit and vegetables. Many artists have studios here inspired by the landscape and light which attracted Van Gogh to spend his time here in St. Rémy and Arles.

It is great too for walking and cycling and relaxing with a picnic under the heavenly scent of the pine trees and wild herbs of the countryside.

Saint-Remy-de-Provence

The perfect spot to unwind... and sit back with a glass of chilled local rosé and a bowl of fresh olives surrounded by the sound of cicadas and olive trees...

It is great too for walking and cycling and relaxing with a picnic under the heavenly scent of the pine trees and wild herbs of the countryside.

“Wonderful holiday, lovely people, lovely place, very relaxing!!”

Reviewed 5 Sep 2011

Have just returned from St Remy with wife and 15 year old daughter. Have had such a lovely time and Beth and her husband made us feel very welcome indeed. Would recommend to people with young families as well as teenagers. St Remy is a small town. The gite is walking distance. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Pool is ideal, never very busy so no rush for sun beds. Accommodation ideal, only small but big enough for us. Lovely weather, what more could one want!!!
