The Jersey region
Jersey, the largest and most southerly of the Channel Islands, with over 450 miles of roadway (comprising a mix of roads and small lanes) as well as a network of over 46 miles of green lanes with a speed limit of 15mph (24kph) where priority is given to walkers, cyclists and horse riders.
The island is well known for its truly magnificent sandy beaches, sheltered coves and crystal clear waters. Inland, winding lanes take you through delightful countryside. Warmed by the waters of the Gulf Stream, Spring arrives early and Summer lingers on. The weather here consistently tops the UK resort charts for sunshine hours and temperature. Jersey is the most southerly of the Channel Islands and summer temperatures average 20C.
The French flavour is all around with French sounding names, continental style bistros, restaurants and pavement cafes. You do not need a passport to visit the Channel Islands unless you intend taking a day trip to France which is a short hop away by sea or air. You will need proof of identity for flights and sea travel to the island.
Some of Jersey's popular events include the Battle Of Flowers (Second week of August), world famous music festival Jersey Live (first weekend of September), International Air Display (Second week of September) as well as many other local festivals and fetes throughout the year.
Whilst the island is served by a bus service, your own transport is highly recommended - either your own car or a hired car or bicycle to make the most of your visit.
Chateau Fontenelles Apartment is 1.6km from St Ouen's Bay. This is a west facing sandy beach which is one of the most popular on the island. The bay is well served with a variety of styles of beach cafes and informal dining as well as more formal venues. As the bay extends for the length of the west coast, the beach is never crowded. It is the surfing centre of the island and is also a venue for blo-karting and kite surfing - activities which are great to watch as well as great to try! The Jersey Surf School is also located on this bay.St Ouen's Village is a short drive away from the apartment, where there is a pub, petrol station, pharmacy and small supermarket.

Set in a quiet location outside St.Quen. Apartment ideal for 2 adults and 2 children, clean and very well kept.Owners very welcoming and helpful. Only downside towels not changed during the week and the beds were uncomfortable. We woke up with sore backs but a sunny day in Jersey soon but a smile back on our faces. Geat location for visiting all the local attractions. Very close to a lovely uncrowed beach. Car hire essential if staying here. Loads to do for all ages and never once heard" i'm bored or are we there yet"! Excellent food in the local country pub and groceries similar price to home. All in all an excellent holiady and would defintely book Chateau Fontelles again.
Thank you for taking the time to review Chateau Fontenelles. So glad to hear that you had an enjoyable stay on the island. We are sorry that you found the bed uncomfortable. The owners have a memory foam mattress on the double bed which they hoped would provide extra comfort for their guests. For stays of longer than 7 nights we do arrange a mid-stay clean and linen change but we will certainly take your comments re more frequent linen and towel changes into consideration.
