“Lovely stay except one large spoiler.”

This house is lovely. Well maintained, very comfortable beds & nice location. We stayed for two nights. I had emailed the day before arrival to say that we would be arriving around 2pm. It does say to phone a mobile number when half an hour away from St.Monans & I unfortunately I had taken the number down wrongly, so didn't get anyone on the phone until 3ish. The guy was quick enough at arriving to let us in but on entering, the property was Baltic. Wasn't too concerned at first but really because we said we would be arriving about 2pm, surely they could of gone & heated the place up. The guy handed us the manual for the heating & said he didn't know how to work it but it should be straight forward, so he left us to it. We could not get it working so had to call him to come back. We got it to come on but after he left it still wasn't heating up. We tried everything, including, my husband bleeding the radiators & turning on an over ride switch in the heating cupboard which was off. He should not of had to do anything like that because all that should be checked & in good working order for guests arriving. The heating still didn't work. We had to phone again, by which time it was near 4.30pm & so cold we couldn't even take off our coats. We had our 20 month old grandson with us & his wee hands were like ice.The guy then called & sent a plumber. He came roughly 45 minutes later. He discovered that the actual valve in the heating system had been turned right down. Once on, the place started to heat up by around 6pm. The house was lovely when heated up but we really feel like 3 hours of our afternoon was taken up with this nonsense & it was completely preventable. Especially in December/winter, the heating should be regularly checked & maintained, not just left up to guests to figure out a hand manual & hope for the best. No excuse really for not having a warm property to arrive to, considering we let them know by email the day before that we would be arriving around 2pm. It was a huge disappointment & a lot of stress at the start of a very short break. It's not like we were there for a week.

Thanks for your comments Laura, we're pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that you found Ceol na Mara a comfortable setting for your short break. As we discussed prior to arrival, we await a phone call to say you are thirty minutes away before going to the property. This is due to many guests advising an ETA then not actually arriving until often many hours after this. Due to having a number of properties to manage, we make this request as we have spent many wasted hours waiting on arrivals, I'm sure you'll appreciate that this is a reasonable system. It was unfortunate that you had been using an incorrect number to try to contact us, our contact is also displayed on the window of the property which could have been used to reach us sooner. The instructions for the heating are contained in the handbook and the system is on a timer. As there had been no issue with the heating for the guests who stayed prior to you, we had no reason to believe that the radiators needed to bled. We had a plumber called out at very short notice who was able to rectify the issue, which was due to a guest incorrectly moving something on the boiler. Hopefully the well stocked fire offered plenty heat whilst the issue was being attended to. We do hope that you will return to the East Neuk again to explore its delights further. Best wishes
