The Basse-Normandie region
Regional Park: We are set in Cotentin and Bessin Marshlands Regional Natural Park which covers 145,000 hectare with 144 villages and towns within the Park. Utah Beach located just 10 minutes away is set in a significantly important coastal protected area of 12,000 acres with the Beauguillot Nature Reserve/Bird Sanctuary of 1,200 acres this area being upgraded to a UNESCO site. The area is in stunning countryside and completely different each season. For example in the winter the marshlands flood to create a beautiful watery scenery with the big skies reflected, then in the summer it becomes pasture with cows peacefully grazing. The East coast being slightly wilder than the west coast, is very unspoilt especially with the government owning vast tracts of the coast line to preserve the natural beauty. This area in Normandy is also famous for it’s horses with numerous stud farms and training stables. On Utah Beach world class Trotting Horses are trained everyday on the beach.
The beaches and seafood: There is something for everyone, bird watchers, beach lovers, gourmets, seafood lovers note the Oyster beds are located on Utah Beach and it's possible to buy Oysters at ridiculous low prices! Wine lovers, walkers, bike riders, horse riders, wind surfers, sand yachters, sailing, diving, horse racing, interest in the 2nd world war or just generally exploring…the problem here is that there is too much to do!
Don't forget GOLF plenty of courses.
Yet in the summer the beaches are paradise, miles and miles of golden sands a perfect spot for a peaceful read, a sun bathe or beach combing, shell fish gathering for your supper when the tide is out, it's safe to swim and it's not crowded.
With the bird sanctuary on Utah Beach there is an amazing number of different species of sea birds and ducks If it is particularly quiet on the beach you may be able to spot the colony of seals. Huge mussels and oysters beds with the produce destined for the finest restaurants and tables in Paris and other gourmet destinations – it is possible to purchase shellfish direct from the farm shops locally
We're very close to the motorway (can't hear it) equidistant 8kms to Carentan, Ste Mere Eglise and Utah Beach. We're in the heart of the American sector WW2
Coleville Sur Mer the American Cemetery, Ste Mere Eglise our local town with the parachutist still depicted on the Church Tower, Omaha Beach, Arromanches, Mulbery Harbour, Point du Hoc,
Carentan our other local town bigger than Ste Mere Eglise has 5 supermarkets, harbour and large market day on a Monday. Plus direct train to Paris.
Bayeux, Mont St Michel, Channel Islands all with in easy access.
Monet's Garden 2 hours away.

"In one word -- Wonderful!!"
What a wonderful experience!! Our recent trip to Normandy was made even more special with our stay at Tansy and Mike’s. They are the most gracious hosts and we felt like we were staying with friends, not just renting a place. We spent a wonderful evening with them enjoying great conversation and wine. Our family rented both the cottage and the barn-loft apartment. Both were perfect accommodations—clean, comfortable and well equipped with the ideal garden room that overlooks a pond and Tansy’s farm animals in the rear. We had fresh eggs every morning! Tansy and Mike are animal lovers, as are we, and their pets helped ease the loneliness we were feeling without our own dogs. Their home is right on the property and Tansy was readily available and so helpful in assisting us with our daily excursions. Mike was also great, but he unfortunately had to leave the day after we arrived. We highly recommend this property for exploring Normandy. We took the train from Paris to Caen, rented a car and found exploring the area very easy from this property. We were just minutes from N13, a main motorway. The location of this property is excellent. It is right in the village of Houesville with Carentan and St. Mere Eglise just minutes away. Definitely recommend the Carentan market day and the caramel factory. The highlight of our trip was to participate in the village’s VE Day ceremony. What a moving experience, particularly when they began singing the Star Spangled Banner and God Save the Queen. Everyone was so welcoming at the gathering following the ceremony. The only downside was that our trip was way too short! Definitely need more than a few days to fully explore and appreciate this area so we do hope that we will be able to return. Might even try a stay at Tansy and Mike’s other home which is located right on Utah Beach. However, we would then miss our great conversations with them. Thank you again, Tansy and Mike, for a stay in Normandy that exceeded our expectations. Don’t forget to let us know if you ever make it to the Philadelphia area. Hope to see you again--Donna, Tom, Sara and Jamie

"Perfect apartment, with wonderful owners"
I find it impossible to imagine that there exist any kinder, sweeter or more generous-hearted proprietors than Mike and Tansy Forster. Our car developed serious problems 30 kilometres before we arrived at Ferme de l’Eglise and we barely made it to the farm – it wasn’t the ideal start to our planned “relaxing” winter break, which we’d hoped to spend exploring the region. Our hearts sank. But first thing the next morning, Mike and Tansy leapt into action. Not only did Mike escort us to a local garage, wait with us while we heard the bad news and drive us back to the farm afterwards but, despite not knowing us from Adam, Tansy then also lent us her own car while we awaited the repair of our own, even putting us on her car insurance! Their astonishing kindness continued: as delays to the repairs mounted, Tansy refused to countenance our taking a hire car, insisting we keep using hers. What’s more, when it became time to leave and our car still wasn’t ready, they allowed us to extend our stay – refusing our repeated offers to pay for the extra days, and insisting that they didn’t want to profit from someone else’s misfortune. This was all so overwhelmingly generous we didn’t know what to say, apart from yet more feeble thank-yous. As for the apartment… it’s pretty much perfect. It’s almost impossible to find a rental house or apartment that is this pleasant, this clean and this well furnished, which also accepts dogs. In France, usually the nice places don’t accept dogs because they don’t want the place ruined. And the ones that do accept dogs do so because it doesn’t really matter, as the place is in such a poor state you could keep a cow in them without adversely affecting the décor. So the apartment at Ferme de l’Eglise is a real find. It’s spacious, cosy – (that wood-burning stove is perfect to come home to after a walk on a wild, windy, winter beach) – and the apartment has everything you need in terms of home comforts. It was a warm haven during a few quite cold days - even when there was sleet and storm force winds outside, we could sit there in the evenings in teeshirts with the stove burning merrily away. All in all, the apartment was probably the best place we’ve ever rented, and made even better by perfect hosts who make you feel like you’re staying with friends. Our stay was a minor disaster financially, and could easily have been completely ruined – but we ended up having a holiday (and an experience) we’ll cherish, and it’s entirely down to Mike and Tansy, who are absolute stars in every way.
