Location description from owner

The Midi-Pyrénées region

We are located 7 km. from Cahors, in L'Lot. Cahors is the "capital" of l4lot, and a romantic old roman city with history and many attractions.Tucked into a rounded nook of the Lot River, Cahors is a lovely medieval city almost entirely surrounded by water. At the heart of wine country, the city's most memorable landmark is the Valentré bridge and the nearby ramparts. Portions of the city, especially on the western edge, are a tad grungy and graffiti-covered. The city's main thoroughfare, Boulevard Leon Gambetta, is pleasant for a stroll, as is the medieval neighborhood just to the east of the road. The city has a dearth of decent hotels, however, with even three-star accommodations lacking in character. Fortunately, the rates are appropriately low. Cahors and a Deal with the DevilIt took seven decades in the 1300s to build Valentré bridge. Legend has it that the builder made a pact with the devil to help in the completion of the bridge

This broad street was built in the 19th century on the line of the moat that surrounded the original town fortifications and is now the central route through Cahors. Many of the townhouses and buildings (eg theatre, town hall, palace of justice) were built around the same time, as part of the towns restructuring. In the historic town you will find the cathedral (not in itself especially interesting though it has a very attractive cloister) and the Old Town, a large number of impressive medieval townhouses on a warren of narrow lanes. Head south from the cathedral along Rue Nationale, and get drawn into the side streets.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1FJU1UiQVPkCahors market is held on Saturdays and Wednesdays (adjacent to the cathedral) and this is a good time to visit. The Museum Henri-Martin in Cahors has an extensive collection of artefacts that help explain the various transitions the town has passed through over the last several centuries. Another place to learn of the history of the town is at the renovated pumping station at Cabazat (next to the Pont Valentre).
