Description

Our Cidre Barn has been tastefully renovated to a high standard combining the old with the new. Many of the property's' main features have been carefully restored for all to see. Although attached to the owner's property it provides space, privacy and seclusion for our guests, including an acre of private grounds for you to enjoy. With easy access to D-Day landing beaches, Bayeaux, the Mont Michel and a 70 km river path of the beautiful Vire valley, good for walkers and we also have bicycles for you to use. St Lo is less than 10 minutes easy drive away with a wealth of restaurants, bars and shops; not forgetting it's historic occupation during WW2. Surrounded by a medieval stone city wall, and boasting one of the top French National horse studs, which is open to the public every day. St Lo and the surrounding area has much to offer tourists.

The Basse-Normandie region

Apart from the famous D-Day landing beaches, the famous Mont St Michel and Bayeaux, there is the unique Contentin National park with it's marais flat lands encouraging the most amazing bird wildlife within the region. There is an excursion by boat through the wetlands to view this wonderful bird population just 10 mins drive from the property. The local markets are traditionally French with an array of 'vide greniers' scattered throughout the villages through the summer months. The west coast beaches overlooking the channel islands are absolutely spectacular and are totally unspoilt, all within an easy 35 mins drive from the Cidre Barn.

Saint-Lo

Although the climate is relatively similar to the UK, the daylight is slightly longer and temperature is also slightly warmer. Surrounded by the sea on all 3 sides, the air is very fresh and pollution free. Driving is an absolute pleasure with beautifully kept roads and good connections to all routes wherever you'd like to go. When you visit Normandy 'La Manche' you will experience a feeling of time travel into the past with history and sleepy villages off the beaten track. Take your time and relax in this tranquil area of beautiful Northern France and explore to your hearts content.

“Wonderful stay at the Cidre Barn”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2016

We stayed at the Cidre Barn from 11th - 18th June, 2016. The Cidre Barn is well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. It is set in a very calm location, perfect for a relaxing holiday. The nearest village is Pont Herbert which has all the amenities that you need but if you want more choice of restaurants and shops then St Lo is only 10 minutes away by car. The Cidre Barn is ideally placed for visiting many of the attractions in the area, Bayeux, the Normandy Beaches and Museums and Caen are only around an hour away. Honfleur and Deauville are a little further but worth the visit if you have the time.. Christine and Ken (the owners) checked that we has everything we needed for our stay to make it a perfect break. We would highly recommend the Cidre Barn.

“First class accommodation and comfort”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2015

Christine was a perfect host. The gite/cottage was fully set up on arrival (even down to a bottle of wine in the fridge.) We arrived following a slightly delayed start to our holiday and Christine was a terrific host and most helpful and accommodating. The tranquility afforded by Cidre Barn situated on the outskirts of Pont Hebert (local village) was superb and a much needed tonic for us. We were easily able to travel to all of the D-Day beaches and memorials in the north east and also to Mont St Michel in the south west. We also managed to put in a day in Honfleur - it's a fair distance away but definitely recommended. Many of the local villages are a genuine pleasure to see, drive through and sample the restaurants/bars etc giving us pause for thought (so many times) about where we might be going wrong in the UK ...!

“Lovely Gite in stunning grounds”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

The gite itself was lovely and had all you could wish for, including satellite tv and free internet. All the facilities in the gite were spotlessly clean and the bed very comfortable. The welcome hamper was a delightful touch. There were even bikes for us to use! The owners of the gite were very friendly and helpful and made our stay even more special. I will most definitely be back again in 2013.
