Location description from owner

The East Sussex region

The South East of England is rich in history and places of interests offering a wealth of opportunities to explore the region in depth. The South has good links to London and is within easy access to Ashford International Station and the Channel Tunnel.

St Leonards on Sea

Hastings is a town of two halves. The modern side offering good shopping facilities and a range of amenities including a library, a sports centre, outdoor tennis courts and a delightful town park with lake fishing, all within walking distance of the main town centre. The Old Town has a rich maritime history and has many tales of smuggling stories of long ago. Some of the medieval houses still have tunnels leading down to the beach which were used by the gangs. Here you can browse around the quirky individual shops or simply enjoy a drink in the numerous eateries on offer. Freshly caught fish can be purchased at the local fish market boasting one of the few remaining beach launched fleets in Europe.

St Leonards offers a slightly slower pace to the hustle and bustle of the new town. Here you can view the many art galleries and the tiny shops selling vintage and pre-loved goods. St Leonards Gardens is well worth a visit to enjoy a quiet stroll in the elegant setting, which is host to open air performances and concerts in the summer months.

“Gorgeous and peaceful penthouse with stunning views”

Reviewed 20 May 2013

What can we say? It was idyllic. Just walking through the front door and hearing the sea was blissful. The penthouse was kitted out in everything we needed for the weekend, and the breakfast hamper was brilliant! Marcie was the ultimate host making you feel at home the moment she handed over the keys. We will definitely be back!

“Peaceful romantic retreat”

Reviewed 13 Jan 2013

A big thank-you to Marcie for allowing us to share La Petite Penthouse and for the yummy welcome hamper. We stayed for New Year; the first couple of days were filled with gales, but as if by magic on New Year's Eve they disappeared and we were able to see in the New Year on the balcony watching a variety of firework displays. New Year's Day was glorious and we were able open the French Windows wide and enjoy the sunshine sitting on the balcony. We ate well, slept well, caught up on our reading, watched DVDs, explored local roads, shops, cafes and restaurants. We finally headed home with our batteries recharged, ready for the rest of 2013 and full of warm memories of a lovely peaceful romantic retreat.

“Magic”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2012

We have never believed in magic, still don't, but came so close to changing our minds when we stayed in the penthouse. If it wasn't for the dreaded staircase !! Still -it was just an absolutely truely magical place, *****

“Perfect Getaway”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2012

The Petite Penthouse is the perfect getaway if you are looking to escape and relax in a beautiful apartment, whilst still being in a town and close to the attractions of 1066 Country. Marcie gives you the warmest welcome and makes checking in and out so easy. She also provides a lovely hamper with fresh local produce which means you don't need to rush out in the morning, although if you wanted to there are lots of little deli's and cafes nearby. The apartment is clean, bright and full of beautiful finishing touches that make it feel like a home from home. The kitchen is well equiped and there is a good size bath which makes a change! I am definitely hoping to return in the near future.

“Perfect seaside getaway”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2012

The Petite Penthouse is a great little apartment with full height glazing onto a balcony overlooking the sea - five storeys up we really felt we were in the crows nest! It has everything you could need, and more, for a getaway. Everything in the apartment is good quality and Marcie provided an amazing hamper for our arrival. Marcie was very helpful beforehand giving tips on places to visit and the best restaurants, pubs etc. and arrival and check out was very easy. There is no lift so it's not suitable for everybody, but for us it just added to the feeling of getting away from it all! We're looking forward to going back.

“Even better than the pictures!”

Reviewed 6 Dec 2011

The owner was very welcoming and helpful and the apartment was beautiful. The view was stunning during all the various weathers of the weekend. A very romantic getaway. Fantastic value for money with fabulous breakfast hamper thrown in. Wonderful walk along the coast to the De la War Pavilion at Bexhill to see Andy Warhol exhibition. We definately will be returning.

“a petite gem - wow what a find!”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2011

Wow what a find! I cannot recommend la petite penthouse highly enough. We came for a long weekend hoping to be able to chill away from the world and enjoy the sea views and we were certainly not disappointed. The attention to detail is wonderful, the penthouse is tastefully decorated, has a fully equipped kitchen complete with tea and coffee. Games and dvds to play and watch in the lounge area, a bathroom with a tub big enough for two and loads of helpful literature to plan trips out. We had everything we needed, including the best sea view and balcony you could wish for. We really cannot wait to return!

“Perfect weekend getaway!”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2011

Booking, payment and arrival were all arranged with ease. Marcie was very friendly and welcoming. La Petite Penhouse is so cleverly designed that the 'petite' side of it is not really apparent (except in the bedroom which did feel rather cramped and not so easy to climb in and out of bed). The apartment has been done to a high standard with a lovely fusion of mod cons and traditional seaside feel. All Marcie's finishing touches made it feel very homely and welcoming and combined a sense of luxury with simplicity. The food hamper was very welcome and to the same high quality standard as the rest of the apartment. The location was perfect, sitting out on the balcony with a cup of tea and watching the waves, the fishermen and the boats is the ultimate relaxation therapy. Listening to the sea and waves at night was the perfect change from London traffic noise. Being on the fifth floor with no lift means it is not suitable for everyone, and the last few stairs up into the apartment feel a little steep and cramped but if you're up for the climb well it is definitely worth it once you walk into the apartment and are confronted with the stylish accommodation and the expansive views of the sea. The windows from the living room into the bathroom and bedroom mean that you can see the sea from every room in the house, which is lovely, but this also means that there is not much privacy so make sure that you're comfortable with the person you're travelling with! Definitely planning to return soon. Thank you Marcie!

“Fabulous”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2011

La Petite Penthouse was a top apartment and I don't just mean it literally. This really was a Top place to stay. The owner has taken great care to ensure that it is very tastefully laid out and has not skimped on any aspect. From the initial arrangements with the owner and all the way through our stay, we have nothing but praise. It was one of the best places, if not the best, we have stayed. As I titled this review - Fabulous!

“Beautiful sea front penthouse flat”

Reviewed 9 Sep 2011

This is a really lovely flat with tasteful modern facilities presented in perfect condition, with a well chosen welcome pack of breakfast goodies, from a quality private deli. Indeed the welcome pack characterizes the whole rental experience. The owner doesn't skimp on cheap and easy - all the fittings and amenities are of very good quality - and it feels like your own seaside getaway. We would highly recommend a holiday here - the surrounding areas of St Leonards and Hastings are fascinating
