About Us, Sarah-Jane & Gérald

As my Grandma (Annie) used to say “Stranger things happen at sea”! A visit to the Loire in 2006 didn't see me return. Today I'm Mme Beaumont, wife to Gérald, a bilingual French wine professional, and Mum to our two gorgeous children, Augustin (9yrs) and Constance (7yrs).  Making our family '5' is our friendly rescue cat, Biscotte who you'll find sleeping amongst the flower beds. We warmly welcome you to our family home where we hope you will enjoy the peace of our village setting, the regions rich history and attractions, local cuisine and diverse wines.

---------------

The village of Pouançay and La Bellevue

A moments walk from La Bellevue is the reputed seafood restaurant the Trésor Belge, serving lunch and dinner, also popular is their 'happy hour' where Belguim beers can be enjoyed in their pretty garden (closed Mon & Tue).

Our peaceful village is a countryside setting of sunflower fields and vineyards. Choosing to relax at the cottage, stroll along vineyard pathways, cycle passing-by sleepy hamlets... being close to the market town of Montreuil-Bellay, between Saumur and Chinon, amenities, markets, flea-markets and discovery of the Loires rich history, majestic châteaux and attractions are all easily accessible.

---------------

Wine Tastings with Gérald, (a bilingual wine professional)

Discover the wines from the Loire Valley with Gérald during a fun and light-hearted wine tasting tutorial in our, once dwellings, troglodyte caves. Bilingual, French and a wine professional from an Angevin wine making family, Gérald will share inherent knowledge while introducing wines reflective of the regions diversity, explaining the tasting technique and the secrets hidden within a French wine label, and more...

St Leger de Montbrillais

St Leger de Montbrillais (2kms) :

A country lane takes you though a sleepy hamlet, past troglodyte caves and through the vines and sunflower fields before arriving to St Leger de Montbrillais. The village has a post office, baker (closed Wednesday and ask for the baguette named 'la tradition'). A highly reputed butcher much favoured by ourselves (try the rillettes d’oie and be prepared to queue on a Sunday morning!), alongside a little tabac (bar).

Montreuil-Bellay (8kms) :

The pretty medieval town of Montreuil-Bellay boasts a magnificent fairy tale Château whose impressive wall encloses the town centre today. An abundance of flower blooms throughout spring to the early months of winter, Montreuil-Bellay is a pretty town to discover. Host to a weekly market and a monthly Brocante (flea-market) there are a number of interesting restaurants to discover, the Château to visit and a lovely picnic area, shaded by trees, set along the edge of the river Thouet which flows through the town… while eating your baguettes the ducks will pay you a visit hoping for some crumbs!

Saumur (25kms) :

Twined with Warwick, England and Verden, Germany. The historical town of Saumur is set along the banks of the Loire river. Host to a fabulous Saturday market Saumur is also home to the famous Cadre Noir, the National Equestrian School of the elite French Cavalry, whose remarkable horsemanship can been seen at shows between April & October. Activities, exhibitions and wine festivals are scheduled throughout the year in Saumur and in July 2016, the 4th day of the Tour de France will be departing from Saumur! Saumur’s a worthy visit, if not only to see the Cadre Noir and the impressive Château, which has been lovingly restored, but to also enjoy the beauty of this stunning river side town in the heart of the Loire Valley, France.

“The experience in Annie's House was a delight from beginning to end.”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2016

I was keen to book Annie's House as soon as I saw the photos. We were not disappointed! The correspondence with the owner, Sarah-Jane Beaumont, was very positive and helpful with details of the accommodation, precise instructions as to how to get there and information about the area. When we arrived, Sarah-Jane was very welcoming and took time to show us all the facilities. Annie's House is a delightful building with good-sized but cosy rooms: kitchen and dining area combined, pleasant living room and excellent bathroom. Upstairs is a large comfortable bedroom. There is an outside area with seats which is separated from the owner's garden and house which allows contact with the owner,if necessary, but privacy the rest of the time. The whole area has been thoughtfully and attractively designed. The kitchen is well equipped with good quality items: I enjoyed the occasions when we cooked and ate in Annie's House. There were too a good range of DVDs which would last more than a week or two. Having stayed at a number of hotels on our trip, we found that the WiFi at Annie's was excellent with a good strong signal. Although the village does not have any shops, it is a very short drive to the next village where, on a Sunday, we found a very good butcher's and baker's open. The nearby town of Montreuil-Bellay, which is a short distance away by car, is not only an attractive place with an interesting chateau but holds a small but comprehensive market on a Tuesday and has some restaurants. Whilst we were staying there we found it easy to get to some of the places of interest in the Loire and particularly enjoyed a lunch at the owners' bistrot in Saumur, Bistrot, Les Tonton. This is a first class bistrot and was a high- light of our eating experiences in Les Pays de la Loire. Saumur itself is an attractive place and has a good and quite large market on a Saturday. We were disappointed that the chateau was closed due to renovation. Altogether our experience was very good with excellent service from Sarah- Jane and Gerald.

“Annies House i, a bit of heaven here on earth”

Reviewed 28 Jun 2012

Words cannot describe adequately how much we enjoyed our stay at Annie's House at La Bellvue. Sharah-Jane and Gerald were so welcoming. The accommodations exceeded my expectations. Very well equipped, spotlessly clean, tastefully appointed and lovely bedding! The setting is lovely , the gardens are beautiful and the view from our private patio breathtaking. Both Sarah-Jane and Gerald are extremely knowledgeable about the area and are happy to share tips for day trips, restaurants etc. Gerald is particularly knowledgeable about wine and wine making. He has had years of personal experience in the vineyards of Loire and is happy to share his knowledge in a professional but totally unpretentious manner. I would highly recommend you book one of Gerald's wine experiences through their website www.loirevalleyuncorked.net , a thoroughly enjoyable way to learn about the wines of the Loire.

“Incredible experience. When can we come back?”

Annie's House was the perfect home away from home for us. We were warmly welcomed immediately and felt very spoiled. The house is a beautiful setting, perfect location for the Loire Valley and our gracious hosts, Sarah Jane and Gerald, made sure all of our needs were met. We highly recommend Gerald's wine tour as well. You will not be disappointed.

“A truely beautiful experience.”

This was our second visit to La Bellevue and like our first visit it didnt disappoint. This year we stayed in Annie's House, which is beautifully presented and very homely. It is immaculately clean and well stocked. Annie's House is situated in the gated grounds of the owners own home, you feel very safe and it is very tranquil and pretty. Sarah-Jane and Gerald, who are an Anglo/French family and who own and run the gites are very friendly and helpful and your every need is catered for by Sarah-Jane. We will definitely be visiting La Bellevue in 2012 for a third time. This blog doesnt really do it justice as I cant recommend it highly enough.

“A Relaxing peaceful location in the heart of The Loire”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2011

We found the Annie's House quite quickly on the internet as it seemed to offer exactly what we were looking for and were very pleased to discover it fully lived up to our expectations. It is located in the centre of a quiet village roughly mid-way between Saumur and Chinon and is an ideal base to explore the beautiful area of the Loire. The gite is clean and comfortable with everything you need to make your stay an enjoyable one. The hosts Gerald and Sarah Jane are very welcoming without being intrusive and even though you are staying in the grounds of their home, you never fell as if you are intruding. There is such a lot to see in the area but we would recommend Chinon and the Abbaye de Fontrevaud in particular. Also if you are looking for a place to eat in Saumur then try the owners place Les Tontons in the main square.

“The most perfect gite in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2011

My husband and I had a fantastic week staying in Annie's House, it really was amazing. The gite is of an extremely high standard but at the same time is very cosy and comfortable. We loved its location in the gorgeous village of Pouancay, which is slightly evalated above the Loire plains so you get some lovely views. However, the best part of all was the wonderful hospitality from Sarah-Jane. She was the perfect host - helpful and friendly yet totally respectful of our privacy. Annie's House is perfectly located for day trips in the Loire Valley. We stayed for a week and we only just scratched the surface of the numerous things there are to do in the area. And we quickly realised that we didn't want to spend all our time exploring because just relaxing and enjoying the comforts of the gite was lots of fun in itself. I would highly recommend staying here - it is not too be missed!

“Outstanding.”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2011

We found this gite on the internet and the pictures match reality, which has not necessarily been our previous experience of other places. It is a lovely place to stay, beautifully clean and well equipped. The owners are extremely pleasant and helpful - Sarah Jane is delightful and very knowledgable of the area, and Gerald's knowledge of wine is tremendous. We would highly recommend Annie's House to anyone wanting to visit the Loire Valley. It is in a quaint and quiet village, with lovely views from the terrace. If we visit the area again, we would not want to stay anywhere else. Do go to their Bistrot Les Tontons in Saumur, it is fabulous.

“Good to be back”

Reviewed 12 Jun 2011

As promised we returned and another wonderful time was had at Annie’s House. Sarah-Jane and Gerald are wonderful hosts who work very hard to ensure your stay is one that you will fondly remember and in all likelihood will want to do again and again. Annie’s House is in a quite little village not far from some of the best things the Loire valley has to offer. If you want peace and quiet, or a base to tour the local area with good food and wine close by then this will suit the bill. It suits us so much we’ll be back in August to stay with Sarah-Jane and Gerald in their other equally delightful holiday Gite. Can’t wait!!
