Description

In the heart of beautiful St Ives, two minutes walk from both the Harbour and spectacular Porthmeor Beach, Anchor Cottage comfortably sleeps a family with two or three children. It is set back from the road in a quiet cobbled cul-de-sac, a stone's throw from the Tate Gallery and the St Ives School of Painting. Barbara Hepworth's Garden is a short walk across town while Fore Street, with its wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants is within easy walking distance. The property dates back to the 1790s when it was a fisherman's cottage. It is part of a small stone terrace that used to back directly onto Porthmeor Beach.

The England region

The Duchy of Cornwall is well known for its beautiful landscape, spectacular beaches and breath-taking coastal walks. The cream teas and fresh seafood are equally renowned. St Ives, on the western-most tip of Cornwall, is particularly famous for the luminous quality of its light which has attracted so many artists over the years. As you approach the town and catch a first glimpse of its turquoise waters and sandy beaches, you feel as if you have arrived in Shangri-La. To the west, the dramatic coastal path takes you towards Land's End, round the headland past Clodgy Point to Zennor, where DH Lawrence lived. In the other direction you can walk through the sand dunes along the South West Path to Godrevey Point just opposite the lighthouse that inspired Virginia Woolf.

St Ives

St Ives is famous for its crystal clear sea and fine golden beaches - all within easy reach of the middle of town. Porthmeor is a Blue Flag Atlantic Ocean family and surfing beach with a surf school and an excellent beach cafe and restaurant. Above it, the Tate St Ives attracts visitors from all over the world. Along the road, the St Ives School of Painting has just been renovated and offers a wide variety of classes. Harbour Beach is sheltered and picturesque with brightly coloured fishing boats, a jetty and a lifeboat station. Ideal for small children. Porthminster Beach, just below the tiny railway station dotted with palms, stretches across the bay towards Hayle - a fabulous expanse of pale sand with the added attraction of a top-class restaurant.
