The England region

The area is noted for its wild moorland landscapes, its extensive and varied coastline, its many place names derived from the Cornish language, and its very mild climate.

Since the 19th century, Cornwall, with its unspoilt maritime scenery and strong light, has beautiful and a vibrant art scenario of international renown. Artistic activity within Cornwall used to be the centred on the art-colony of Newlyn, most active at the turn of the 20th century.

The climate is warm and sunny, with breathtaking coastal walks, golf links rugby and male voice choirs.

There is a love of organic fresh food and the area has some super restaurants and guest houses.

There are old Tin Mines to see, stunning gardens, surfing lessons to be had and some cookery classes care of Rick Stein.

St Ives is a particular gem, with a huge choice of Art and Crafts, wonderful food and stunning beaches. The town has something for everyone.

West Country

St Ives is well known as a popular holiday destination, famous for its beautiful beaches, excellent surfing and many art galleries.

St Ives has a September Festival. The St Ives September Festival is one of the longest running and widest ranging Festivals of the Arts in the UK. The duration of the festival goes about 15 days and includes a range of arts from Music (including Folk, Jazz, Rock, Classical & World) to Poetry, Film, Talks and Books. It was founded in 1978 as a joint venture by a group of local entrepreneurs and the nearby International Musicians Seminar.

There is a May day celebration like no other, which culminates in dancing around the Knill Monument.

The fun stuff is the surfing, the beaches, the wonderful array of arts to buy and that unique quality of light that drew artists to the town in the first place.

“Excellent location”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2015

We enjoyed our stay at Admiral Cottage very much, what a fabulous location, even if the seagulls are a little noisey! The Cottage is very well equipped, and a pleasure to stay in. Fabulous views! Would recommend.

“Stunning. Loved every minute.”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Admiral Cottage. We have three young kids (8,6,4) who loved every minute. The cottage has been refurbished to a high standard, with lots of thoughtful details to make it a pleasant place to be on a rainy day. It also has excellent access to St. Ives and the Harbour. But I think what we loved the most was the beautiful views from the flat of the Harbour and the ocean. I never got tired of looking out the window. Highly recommended.

“Light, bright, stupendous view”

I, and my two daughters aged 20-30, plus two dogs, had a wonderful Christmasstay in Admiral Cottage. Good bedrooms, lovely bathroom. The attic room, especially, has a panoramic view (believe the pictures on the website). The property is excellently equipped for self-catering: we cooked three meals for seven (my sister, brother-in-law and two nephews were staying nearby).

“Wonderful place to stay to enjoy the picturesque beauty of St Ives.”

We stayed in Admiral Cottage for three nights. The accommodation was just what we had hoped for. It was nicely furnished, clean and situated literally minutes from the beaches, harbour, restaurants, cafes, shops, and not too far a walk from the railway station. The views from the Cottage were picture post card. The cistern was a little noisy at times and we could have done with more towels, but otherwise Admiral Cottage was a lovely place to stay. We very much hope to stay there again.

“A room with a view”

Reviewed 2 Apr 2014

My family (teenage daughter) stayed at the cottage during school half term last October. It was during the period of heavy gales on the south coast. We arrived on a dark rainy evening and finding the cottage from the car park was a little tricky. However, once we were in we turned up the heating and settled in. The view of the harbour was breathtaking and access to the quaint streets was just down an alley at the end of the path. Plenty to see and do for any age group. St Ives is such a lovely little place we had a great time and would highly recommend the cottage to my family and friends.

“lovely house, easy walking distance to town, superb views”

“The perfect place to stay in St. Ives!”

Reviewed 13 Jan 2012

The Admiral Cottage was the nicest place we stayed in our trip to Europe. Where it's located, the interior, and the view from the master bedroom are all just fantastic. We had been traveling for a month by the time we stayed there and it was so great to get a chance to relax and cook our own meals and stay in such a luxurious place with such a good view. The owner, Melanie, was super accommodating and such a nice lady. We were able to contact her on the phone and through email and she would get back to us quickly and answered all of our questions and all that. The place was clean, nice, well furnished, and beautiful!
