Description from owner

Description

The cottage is situated on a small private drive just above the town and close to the Tate Modern. It has sea views across St Ives Bay and Godrevy lighthouse, as well as the north end of Porthmeor Surf Beach.

With a large garden and ample parking, Avoca is the perfect place to come back to after a day out in St Ives or the surrounding area. It is just a short walk to the town and all its beaches and it's a warm, comfortable and cosy little house with two double rooms (one with an en suite) and another room with bunk beds and a cot/z-bed option. One further room upstairs offers a single bed.

For the 2016 season, we are celebrating 14 highly successful years of letting with an extensive refurbishment of the property to include a new upstairs lounge with a full length double Velux balcony, and extra single bedroom. There will also be added a cosy summer sleep-out for the children - should you have any extra visitors during your stay, please get in touch for access.

The town houses the Tate Modern Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth sculpture Museum as well. There is also a wealth of local galleries in the maze of streets by the quayside. Not forgetting the famous St Ives pottery - with showrooms and workshop. There are also plenty of local sports with a great indoor swimming pool within walking distance for the odd rainy day. Local horse riding schools are nearby and we are very close to the famous coastal path. Why not take the spectacular walk down to Zennor and catch the bus back? It stops right by our lane.

“fab location with everything you need”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2015

Great house with fabulous living space. All bedrooms were comfy and plenty of hot water. Pegs and washing line that actually held up to wetsuits! 7 of us stayed here and would recommend it as long as you dont mind a brisk walk to the beaches downhill...get the bus up! Porthmeor beach great for surfing and bodyboarding and Porthminster beach great for the hot days digging sand castles and paddleboarding. Great shop across the road and even the chinese knew where to deliver. Loved the house and owners very helpful and quick to respond to queries. Thankyou for a great week ...

“Relaxed, quiet, central, private, comfortable place to stay”

Reviewed 10 Nov 2014

Just what we needed: we could lie in bed and see flocks of starlings, sea and lots of sky, cook something in the kitchen without missing out on the fun in the sitting room (as they are part of the same room), or walk down to town in five minutes, watch surfers, head out on a long walk or go to the pub or a restaurant. Especially liked that there was no traffic noise in this cottage, lots of space, a comfy bath, loads of hot water and a good sized garden to walk out into. Great place for kids: it feels you could relax with children here as it's not too precious, or twee and isn't at all frilly. Just easy and well thought out.

“Ideal holiday cottage”

Well laid out, convenient and well-appointed single-storey cottage which felt quite spacious, although there were only two of us in a place for six ! Pretty good value. Also had lovely garden and views. Although a good walk from the centre of St Ives, it's well worth it for the convenience of having car parking, for loading/unloading and being free to come and go by car as you please. Maybe it's not such a bad thing to walk off the gorgeous pasties,ice-creams & scones freely available in the charmingly unspoiled village. We would certainly consider staying here again.

“Home from Home”

Cozy cottage, quiet, a place we made our home for an extended time over winter. Avoca offers a welcome respite from a day of walking or other activities, gives a distant view of Godrevy Lighthouse, on a clear night shows the stars and in the daytime gives a front seat panorama of the ever-changing sky. The en suite bedroom is perfect for guests. Avoca served us well for our "home from home" stay in St Ives.

“We loved Cornwall!!”

Reviewed 2 Oct 2013

We had a fantastic week at Avoca cottage. The cottage was in a quiet residential location but not far from the town centre. We are a family of 5 with three young children and we also went with Grandparents too and I would say that as the cottage is a bungalow it was suitable for both the old and the young. The cottage was clean and well equipped. Walking back to the cottage from the town there is a steep hill to consider, but there is always the bus. The kids loved the back garden too and this was big enough for them to play in after days out. Overall we loved Cornwall and have taken away some lovely memories.

“Ideal Location-Basic and clean+ Good Value”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2013

Nice large warm bungalow in a quiet out of the way part of St Ives. Bungalow is fine for families and those people who don't want 5* facilities. I would describe the bungalow as clean but needing tidying up around the edges. For example all the sofas are damaged by dogs/cats- eg leather flaking off. Floor boards had the odd wide gap. On the positive side the bungalow was lovely and warm and the showers(2) were fine. Location fine for us but it is a good walk into town- and uphill all the way back!! Beds good and we slept well. parking could be an issue in summer if you have more than 1 car as the parking space is only large enough for a mini sized car.

There actually is a garage available which you parked in front of: therefore there are two parking spaces at least (a smaller car can be fitted alongside to allow for 3 at a push). New furniture for 2014.
